Just wanted to see if there were any other Haas admits on CC. I'll start off my saying a little info about myself. I'm from Arcadia, CA and attend Pasadena City College. I work for a Los Angeles County Supervisor and have my own business. I enjoy trading stocks as well as playing basketball and bass fishing. Hope to get to know some of the others out there.

Hi, this thread will help a lot for future Haas applicants. Do you mind posting up your stats?

Hello,

I live in Sacramento and have just been going to school and trying to enjoy my free time the past couple of years. I’m pretty excited about Haas. It was the whole reason I quit my job in the financial industry in August of 2007 (I saw this economic downturn coming and jumped ship before the secondary credit markets completely melted down).

I guess I’ll post some general stats since it helps people anticipate their chances for next year.

GPA: 3.8ish
Pre-reqs: All done, 7/9 breath requirements (I took an applied Calculus course instead of going the Calc 1 route)
Essay: I wrote them the night before, spell check didn’t notice I misspelled Berkeley. I thought that would ruin my chances for sure. Other than that, the content was solid.
EC: not much while in school (work experience in finance, USMC war vet)

If anyone has any other questions, feel free to PM me.

**I’m blowing off my HW for tonight and heading out to drink. I look forward to meeting all of you in July.

Congrats!

Sure, 3.93 total gpa with all prereqs. completed at time of admission. I was at a CCC for 3 years and have over 90 units total. I also completed my foreign language req. at a seperate community college and did another course in high school at Marshall School of Business at USC.

congrats loski and jcs! i’m also glad you guys are going in-depth about your background, rather than just posting the usual GPA and ECs.

what do you think made you guys stand out from the crowd? any advice for a future applicant?

My stats are similar to loski’s

GPA:3.85
Pre-reqs done, 7/9 breadth
Essays: I’d rate the UC app essays an 8/10 and the Berkeley personal statement a 9/10
ECs: none really

Iraq vet / Sgt in USMC, did most of my freshman year while I was still on active duty. I think they might have considered this an EC.

I’m also an older (29), married student.

To my GPA: my grade trend mitigated my non-stellar GPA I believe. I got one C in English my first semester in school due to not being able to submit a final (I was working 24-hour on/off shifts at the time) and that kept my GPA from going over 4.85. The rest of my grades where all As. I was betting they would look at that C in that context and it appears they did. I think my military experience and my personal essays made up for my lack of ECs.

how many essay prompts are there just for haas?

Just one, you pick one of two topics to base your essay on.

^ Two during the application, one supplemental in January.

I got in too. I got 3 Bs (college algebra (first math class), biology with a lab, and a dumb intro to humanities class (teacher was an ex flight attendant moron)). I thought I was toast for sure, only a 3.83 gpa. I have been looking for housing at UCSB for the past few weeks, so suffice to say I was entirely shocked to see an acceptance to Haas on the monitor. As far as EC’s go, I worked [at a Longs Drugs (now CVS!)] during the last two years while going to CC, about 25-30 hours a week (I’m 19). I shunned all the club nonsense at my school.
I

so just work experience? i personally don’t see myself joining any school clubs because the club meetup hour is during one of my classes.

Applied: Haas
Status: Accepted

Stats:
GPA: 3.91
Finished all pre-reqs
9/9 breadth requirements

Essays: This might sound a little crazy, but I started my essays over 6 months before they were due… not being biased, I’d rate them 10/10 and the Haas essay 9/10

Work Experience:
Intern at a Hedge Fund
Intern for a large health care company (corp) - Accounting/Finance
Externship at UBS
Currently interning for an Investment Bank

E/C:
VP of Business Club (PBL)
Handful of case study awards from the State Business Leaders Conference
Handful of volunteering hours (hospital, non-profits, etc)
AGS Honor Society
Starting Point Mentorship
NON-TAP

I have been receiving several private messages asking for transfer tips. I am more than happy to share my experience with you guys. I think it’d be most effective to speak with several of you at the same time. I may just make a thread or respond to the PM’s.

HAAS

Hope to know more about all of you. Congrats to all. Be happy, there are many qualified people who fought for these spots.

I enjoy all sports, soccer and basketball especially. Also enjoy trading stocks, spending time with friends as well as making new ones.

Just put it here in this thread.

i noticed alot of you guys had all prereqs done at time of admission. do you think it would screw me over if i had 2 prereqs in progress when i apply? and congrats to all of you!

Someone make a facebook group for 09 transfer admits.

not at all, as long as you have 7/9 by the end of spring. Having said that, I cant be 100% sure because when so many people apply for so few spots…no one can be sure what the criteria is to get accepted.

binks no, I have 2 breadth classes, one literature req and my Calc I pre-req all in progress.

Russkiy, I sent you a PM but it’s not showing up in my outbox. Did you get it?

doesn’t haas have mandatory summer school that starts in July? If so, how do you get finaid for that???

Yes, no idea just yet.
