Haas at UC Berkeley

Hello,

I just finished my first year at UC Berkeley and I am a pre-haas major.

I know that haas mainly only looks at prerequisite grades but if I got a C in one of my non-Haas prereq classes (a class that is a breadth course), will that severely hurt my admissions to Haas?

Thanks.

Haas does take a good amount of consideration into GPA. Is that your only bad GPA? If you did well in others and do well next year, you’ll be okay. But I also know that even if your GPA is a bit low, they still look into your essays and your non-academic activities.

At this point, there is no point thinking whether or not that one grade will severely hurt your admission. You just have to accept it and work your butt off, whether that one grade will hurt you or not.

Best of luck!

It’s hard to tell how much that single grade will impact your overall chances of getting in. As you may already know, the average GPA to get in is a 3.7, so the impact of that grade may depend on how it affects your overall GPA relative to that benchmark. It will be advantageous that the grade came in a breadth, rather than pre-requisite, class. Also, if you have an extenuating circumstance underlying that grade, you can note that on the Haas app too.

don’t worry about it at this point. just try to keep your gpa up as much as possible and write solid essays and have decent ECs: that’s really all you can do.
