Haas - Berkeley - ur thoughts

Where r all the Haas ppl?

Berkeley has had problems w/ funding in the past, but they actually have more money than ever b4 this year-- tats y their admit rates were higher this year by 1 or 2%.

I applied to Berkeley just so I could get a shot at going to Haas-- got in to Cal-- so...we'll c what happens.

I applied to UMich too-- but I recently moved and havent got my acceptance/rejection from them-- so i still dont kno if i got in-- i guess its too late now anywayz-- statement of intent was due may 1.

wat do u guys think?

Cal's awesome. Even if you don't get into Haas, Cal has a top 5 Econ program that is highly respected and the University itself is one of the top 10 in the nation. I love Michigan, but Cal is just as good and you get it at a discounted rate. I say forget Michigan...unless you want a change of scenery or if you wish to work on Wall Street, in which case, Michigan would be a better choice. But Cal will be significantly cheaper, so if you do get into Michigan, you will have a tough decision.

berkeley has a lot of problems with it in general...most of your teachers will not be teaching you because of the stupid UC system requiring them to do research, classes are not very well organized in the sense that they are not offered continously...but this doesnt mean that you will not learn anything...Haas has some good programs its just that the entire UC system is screwed up and there are a lot of politics behind it...

Rajkumar, Cal (and the UC system in general) has some issues to sort out, but I think you are overstating them. Most professors at Cal actually teach undergrads. I am not familiar with all the departments, but I am intimately aware of the Chemistry, Econ, Engineering, History and Political Science programs at Cal and I can tell you that the bulk of their "star" professors teach undergrads.
