I noticed that a lot of classes in Haas are 3 units instead of 4. Wouldn't this force Haas students to take an average of 5-6 classes to reach an average amount of units/semester or do they just take less units/semester? Are the workload/difficulty of these classes reflective of 3 units or do they sometimes feel like 4 unit classes?

They’re like 4 unit classes… But I would say that 4 units in Chem 4a is very different from 4 units in ESPM 50ac… so it’s not exactly a good measure

I think Haas students take an average of 3-4 haas courses + something else a semester (so around 13-16 units), which is average.

Haas requires 32 units for the major + 18 outside of major. So it’s not difficult to complete.

There’s no reason they can’t just take 13 units. They get priority for all their classes so it’s not like late telebears (if they got one) would be a problem.

Certainly Haas majors could simply take 13 units a semester if they were not double majoring. I technically need 9 units a semester to graduate from now on, for example. However, it’s really about maximizing your time here at Cal and taking as many interesting courses as you can, and thus we really do try and stack up as much as possible.

BUT I think the OP is asking about whether 3 units in a Haas class really feels like 3 units. I would answer that it really varies from class to class. UGBA 100 (business communication), 105 (organizational behavior) and 106 (marketing) or infamous for requiring too much work as per the unit value of the class. Other classes are 3 units but are easy as s***. It just depends.

In terms of classes I’ve taken and time commitment

UGBA 103 > UGBA 106(robinson) > UGBA 100 > UGBA 102a

For UGBA 103, each assignment takes around 2-5hrs or around 10-15 hrs if you get distracted easily online xD
