nhl, you look like a very strong applicant. However, you being international will make me not worry about you. I’ll just automatically assume you are one of the ten international students who get accepted every year to haas as transfers.

My stats: Transfer to Hass 2011 from Community College

GPA: 3.9

Breadth: Everything is finished except POLS and CALC which I will finish this Spring

Clubs: Puente Club

Employment: McDonald’s Crew Member, Assistant for a DJ firm, and Cashier. I worked 35+ hours a week while in school.

Essay: Talked about graduating high school at 16, being the first in my family to go to college, and taking 24 units in a 16 week semester while receiving a 4.0 GPA at the age of 17. Essay seems pretty good.

Can someone chance me? =)

@avega What’s pols? Political science?

You look like you are in…if you are Hispanic! No racial but we all know there are not enough underrepresented minorities at Haas.

Yeah. Im 100% Hispanic which technically makes it much easier to get in. POLS is Political Science. Also, everyone has been telling me my Stats look good except for the ECs which might harm my application. I hope we get into Haas. Lastly, Im I wonder what the prompt for the additional essay questions will be like in January.

Hello everyone, I was checking the forum and saw this thread, and Im applying to Haas as well. Here are my stats:

GPA: 3.96

ECs: been working at BoA for 6 years, president of AGS, member of business honor club and investment club, board member of a non-profit, numerous scholarships, summer intern for an apparel business owner, hours of volunteer service.

Prereqs: Complete

Breadth: 3 more in Spring

Application and Essays: Good, got tremendous help from Berkeley TAP coordinator and my acad counselor.

On a side note, Im also a re-entry immigrant student who has never attended high school here.

@nhl1508: I think I know who u are, =p

Good luck everyone! Hopefully all of us will get in so that we can hang out and grab some beers together!

hey yo investment, any new updates since fall 10?

@rainzquall

Are you applying as an International student?

Hi nero, not really. Still have a 3.9 gpa. Have some cool new ECs but they won’t really matter anymore. I started buying stock, invested $5000 on GOOG.

@rainzquall how did you get into TAP as an international student? (If you are one).

rainzaull is not an international student but an immigrant…
but anyways, maybe you should post your stats again.

@Investment

Damn. No diversification?

yeah but GOOG is a pretty conservative choice

Its all about $USO Calls baby

All day

True but with 5k I would of spread the money around. I doubt GOOG stock will sky rocket to receive a sufficient return on the original investment. AAPL just keeps on rising. It wasn’t that long when it was trading around 110. Now it’s almost at 350.

You’re gonna need a lot more than $5000 to get a sufficient return in the equities market.

@Investment & talebi818: Im not an international student but a permanent resident. I came to the States 7 years ago.

Yeah I’m not looking for sufficient returns.

@nero My stats are on the first page of this thread.

The real question I would like to ask all Haas applicants is “how many other good Haas candidates at your CCC do you know?” We all know 400 students are eligible to transfer to haas every year and 100 get accepted. This statistic does not vary every year. How many people do you know from your school look like they are getting in? These are people with amazing ECs, good grades, are in TAP, or a combination of these elements. You should say which CCC you are from.

Im in Los Angeles and i only know 2 other people that are applying to Haas. One seems to be ok, but the other doesnt seem to amazing (the usually clubs and community service stuff) but I havnt really had time to meet alot of people in my CC and ask around.

@Investment I wanted your opinion. Clubs and community service is great, but isn’t that stuff for high schoolers? I mean if you’re an adult (assuming most applicants are about 18) and you are spending 2-3 years at a CC shouldn’t you have more than just clubs and community service hours? I know your ECs and you know mine, but I just wondered what you thought about it because i see a lot of people post their stats and they have like 12 clubs and an internship but does that really give them relative experience?

hey isnt there a supplementary essay thingy we do for haas in january? did anyone get it yet?

@talebi818 To be blunt, doing clubs is not enough. Volunteering is not enough. But Haas admissions officers want you to show that you are able to lead. So doing 1-2 clubs and being a top officer (such as President) will help a lot. I was fortunate enough to get recognized for my volunteer work and featured in my city’s newspaper and I was given an award. My volunteering mainly helped the homeless which looks good for Berkeley because homeless people are everywhere in Berkeley and it shows a philanthropic side of me. I believe ECs like that matter. They have to be top notch and relevant to your major. Quality over quantity.

Of course there are people who go beyond volunteering, clubs, internships, part-time jobs, etc. Those people who make a real impact will definitely have good chances. To be honest, this isn’t Wharton, it’s Haas, so the usual kind of ECs should be enough as long as they are good. You don’t need to be amazing and develop a Fortune 1000 company.

@Investment I see, yeah i understand that leadership dynamic of it when it comes to club, something i truly lack in. But as the cliche goes: leaders aren’t born, they’re made.
