Haas Question!

Hey guys, long-time lurker here lol. Thanks for all your help in advanced.

I've decided to go for a Business Administration degree but the only problem is that I haven't taken any of the major prerequisites to get into Haas's undergraduate program (Econ, UGBA, Stats). I'll be a sophomore next fall.

Would cramming all of my classes and applying next fall be an option? Alternatively, I could apply my junior year and build my application a bit more. I feel I'm at a disadvantage if I apply next fall having next to no grades for my major prerequisites (excluding the ones I'll be taking next fall). Econ will be my backup major btw.

Assuming you have no exemptions from any pre-requisites, you have 2 Calculus classes, 1 Statistics class, 1 Economics class, 2 Reading and Composition classes, and UGBA 10 for a total of 7 class. You could conceivably take 3 next semester (ideally across multiple disciples - such as UGBA 10, R & C part A, and a math class - to avoid overworking yourself in, for example, math classes). You’ll probably want to take UGBA 10 in the fall. To be clear, Haas will be able to see your grades from next fall’s classes. You can also take online statistics over the summer to lead to one less pre-requisite for the next school year.

More broadly, you may want to consider two things: (1) whether you want to study in Haas badly enough to warrant such intense focus on its pre-requisites for the next year and (2) if you feel that your application is competitive enough as of this fall to make the commitment worth it (alternatively, if you end up deciding to apply as a third-year, you’ll have more time to space out your pre-requisites, though keep in mind that’d likely mean you’d graduate in 5 years, rather than 4). I think these considerations will be most critical in helping you decide whether or not (and if so, when) to apply to Haas.

taking econ 1, ugba 10 and stat 20/21 all at once should be fair game for a sophomore. imo. you can leave 1 out to take later for spring 2013, but dont put away more prereqs than that one.

applying jr year is an option to consider if you feel pressed for time. otherwise i think it is doable.

As noted above, there are 7 total prerequisites, and the prerequisite sequences are at most 2 courses long, so you should easily be able to fit them all into your sophomore year in which you will likely take about 8 courses.

If you have absolutely none of them completed, your schedule could be:

Fall: R&C A, Math 1A or 16A, Economics 1, UGBA 10
Spring: R&C B, Math 1B or 16B, Statistics 20 or 21, breadth*

These three can be rearranged.
