Haas R&C Requirement (AP Exemption?)

The Haas website's AP exemption list (Exam Credit, Undergraduate Programs, Berkeley-Haas) states that a 5 on the English Literature exam exempts English R1A and R1B. As I understand it, the credits for R1A and R1B will transfer over, but I will not have received a letter grade.

On another page of the website, Haas undergraduate admissions states that the minimum eligibility requirements include taking all prerequisites for letter grades. The English Reading and Composition requirement is one of them.

It linked to the L&S website, and the L&S website confirms that my AP credits will satisfy the R&C requirement.

Though I will be able to exempt R1A and R1B for credits, does that mean that I still have to take English courses comparable to R1A and R1B at Berkeley or will I be exempted from the R&C requirement altogether?

Thanks!

The Haas page you linked says that the specific AP scores cause the specific prerequisites to be “not required”, so you should not have to take them at all for Haas purposes. You can ask them directly if you are still not sure.

If you have a 5 on AP Lit, you are exempt from both halves (“A” and “B”) of the Reading and Composition requirement and will not need to take them as a pre-Haas student. Your pre-requisite, major and overall GPAs will not be affected by your test score and corresponding requirement exemption.
