Hey guys! Thanks so much for helping!!

According to the Haas Business School website, since they don't accept AP Calc AB scores ,"Two semesters of calculus are required: Math 16A and Math 16B or Math 1A and Math 1B or Math 1A and 16B. Math 53 or Math 54 will also fulfill the calculus prerequisite for Haas."

I got a 5 on the AP AB test. Can I skip Math 1A and 1B and take Math 53 and 54 instead?
I'm planning on self-studying Calc BC this summer to refresh.

Or should i take 1B and Math 53 my freshman year? (would Haas allow this?)

Lastly, are math 16A and 16B really necessary if you want to go into Haas?

Thank you all!!

I’m in the same situation as you. I read from another thread that Math 1A and 1B are for math-intensive majors while Math 16A and 16B are for non math-intensive majors (social sciences). Since GPA is important for Haas, I would take 16A and 16B (16A is basically Calc AB all over…look at the course catalog).

Also, what’s your backup major in case you don’t get Haas? Many Haas rejects major in economics, so if that’s you then maybe 16A and 16B would be best.

You can basically take anything since you have a 5 on the AP. You could take Math 53 and 54. However, since you have to take these classes for a letter grade, you might as well go for the simplest option, Math 16A/B, and guarantee yourself an A in both classes.

Unless you actually want to learn more math… then take 53 and 54.
