I was wondering if anyone here was a member of Habitat for Humanity, and could give a current junior any advice of how to get involved, beginning now, or in July. Where can I sign up? How often can I volunteer?

We have an office in our school dedicated to service activities and I just signed up to do it with my school once a month. Try doing it through school if yours offers it..

I do a lot of work with Habitat.
Just show up at the built site any day that they are working and they will have the forms for you to sign for releases. If you are under 18 you will likely need a parent to sign them (this may depend on the town you live in).
You can work as often as as much as you want. They always need more help.
Plan to get hot, dirty, tired and to have a really good time. The homeowers that you will meet will make the work really worthwhile; they are people trying to get ahead without a handout.

a lot of churches are involved in it, also, talk to a kiwanis club member, etc... most of them are involved with service organizations such as habitat.

i'm pres of hfh.. I found out this year that under 16s are not allowed to be on the building site, which is a real downer for the club since more than half are under 16.

I organised for them to go work at the hfh depot which is basically repainting and organising materials and mowing the lawns and stuff.

You have to first contact your regional director. He/She will tell you everything you need to know... dates, meeting places, building sites, etc...
If you are going to start a chapter and become pres, make sure you organise transport and food and evyerhting because most students (young ones espectially) are lured in by food and the comfort of not organising anything.

But it's really really fun. They always make the little ones do the easy stuff like painting. I did that for 2 months before I could get really involved haha

I initially found out about HFH through one of the Ministries at church; I bet if you called your church someone would know the number of the local chapter.
Otherwise, use the HFH Website and there is a function on there to "search for affliliates". Stick in your Zipcode and it will bring up the closest ones. Just give them a call and tell them you want to work and they will give you all the info and maybe even mail out the waiver forms so you can fill them out ahead of time.
NoFX was right about that under 16 can't do actual construction. You aren't supposed to use power tools or work on the roof if you are under 18, but if you seem competent with tools...no one will ask your age.
It is the best organization I have been involved with..It's really neat to be able to go back next year and look at 'your' house.

check your environmental club or see if you have a local chapter of hfh in your school. it's very fun when you're with friends, or if not, you get to know lots of people fast.

some of it gets tiring but it's quite rewarding... it's a good experience, definitely worth it. as mentioned before though, prepare to get dirty.
