Does anybody know good hackathons for a beginner? I’m looking to participate some during high school. Also, I’m trying to teach myself how to code. I already have a good foundation of HTML and CSS but do you think that Codeacademy teaches JavaScript well? I’m also using Khan Academy. I’m just wondering if there are any reputable, free resources online. Thanks so much.
The specific language is less important than the expression of ideas.
I’ve recommended Arduinos and Raspberry Pi’s to parents of our robotics teams, as having some immediate reward, like turning a light on or making a servo move is rewarding right now. Having some purpose to your code moves it from work into play.
They also have bunches of open source code available allowing you to see different approaches to common problems. Few things teach good style like digging through someone else’s spaghetti.
So that’s my recommendation.
