My S received a message from collegeboard that someone had tried to log into his account using incorrect passwords, and as a result the account was frozen for awhile.

virtually no one knows his collegeboard id name (its not obvious; not an email name etc) - so who could be trying to log into his account, see his scores, where he has had scores sent?

Any ideas?

Maybe him?? This happened to one of my kids. They were trying to get into the site to see their scores and they couldn't remember the password. They tried several...then they were LOCKED OUT. I don't remember how we solved it...it may have been frozen for 24 hours and then it was OK....honestly I don't remember. I DO remember that the kid was really annoyed!!!

No, it wasn't him - he hasn't visited CB in ages because all scores were sent in long ago.... and he hasn't taken the SAT since spring '07....

Maybe someone else has an ID similar to your son's, and incorrectly remembered his or her ID, and entered your son's ID instead. If the person was using his or her correct password with the wrong ID (e.g your son's), it would appear that he or she was trying to hack into your son's account.

Well, thank goodness for password protection, and thank goodness CollegeBoard has these security measures in place.

I agree it's good that the college board had protections...but what exactly could a hacker gain by getting into someone's information? They could find out someone else's SAT scores. Is that it?
