had a 2-hour interview with emory univesity

so i had a 2-hour interview with emory univesity … what does that mean ? is that a… good thing or bad thing. ?

Well they are interested in all their applicants. That does not mean they will accept them. Don’t know what % of those interviewed get in but in most schools those who request/arrange interviews get them.

no. they ASKED me to interview.

@lostaccount

Alumni interview?

yea

My S has been “asked” a few times. If they have enough interviewers in your area, they will ask.

I thought Emory was a bit more selective in choosing interviewees?

OP: you might want to ask on the Emory forum?

@HRSmom alright dude. thanks

.

Emory only does interviews in select areas it seems (appears to be places with high applicant density, big cities etc) most likely as a way to distinguish between the flood of applicants. Otherwise, it’s simply given based on alumni availability. I don’t think selectivity has much to do with anything. Don’t quote me on that though.

If it was an alumni interview, don’t think too much about it.

I’m an alumni interviewer and what I was told is that we interview those the school would like some more information on (often around fit), but that we do not spend time interviewing candidates who do not have the stats to receive serious consideration for admissions.

@aigiqinf So then how do they distinguish between applicants not in the areas where Emory says they provide alumni interviews but will nevertheless have many applicants, for example, Philadelphia? On the website, this is what appears:

Alumni interviews are currently being offered in the following cities:

Baltimore
Boston
Chicago
Dallas
Houston
Los Angeles
Nashville
Raleigh-Durham
San Francisco
Seattle
Tampa Bay
London, England

Outside of those cities, the admissions office just doesn’t have that additional information to consider. This should be fair to all of those applicants, since school like Emory divide their admissions team into regions. I think the interview program is still relatively new–I’m in one of the largest cities and many of those I’m interviewing are an hour away from me.

I did not interview with Emory when I was going through the admissions process because Emory did not offer interviews near me at that time. I’m sure the school also takes alumni interview reports with a huge grain of salt, but one of the benefits a lot of people miss is that it’s also really an opportunity for students to ask some questions that they can’t find answers to online so that they can see if the school is a good fit for them.

@aigiqinf I see. Thanks for the info!
