Had a great visit with my son and niece on Tuesday.

I thought the admissions counselor who gave the talk did a great job (except I wish she had used a microphone, as I had trouble hearing her). Our tour guide was very engaged and talkative.... it was clear he loves the school. Fordham has moved to the top of my son's list.

For me, it will all come down to scholarship money. He will probably be a NM semifinalist, but his high school does not rank. Not sure how they will look at his grades, scores, etc. in determining whether he gets that scholly. Any ideas? If he gets the scholarship, we are Bronx bound (all the way from Louisiana).

Glad you had such a good visit to Fordham. My S is very happy there.

From what I gather, Fordham does not hold it against a student if their high school doesn’t rank in terms of giving out scholarships. Look down a few threads and read the one entitled “Chances of my son getting a scholarship to Fordham?” --that may help you. Good luck.

Fordham generally gives you a free ride on the tuition if you are a NM Semifinalist. You will have to just pay room and board. I’m not sure if class rank will even be a factor. You could check with admissions to make sure I’m right about this, but this is how it worked out for my us.

It sounds like your S has an excellent shot to get a very significant scholarship at Fordham. For better or worse, all you can do now is have your S send in the strongest possible application and wait. Nothing is guaranteed until you are formally awarded a scholarship by the school so, unfortunately, patience will be an important part of the process. I do hope it works out for your S to attend Fordham. As an aside, I personally think that coming from Louisiana could be a positive as Fordham is looking to expand its geographic reach (but that is just my opinion). And what a great experience living in NY would be for your S. All the best.

Thanks, Happy. As a matter of fact, my son’s school has a pretty strong connection with Fordham, as it does with other Jesuit colleges. Last year it sent 4 boys to Fordham, and I know of at least one that will be starting in the fall. Granted, ours is probably the only school in the state with this type of relationship with Fordham. But I hope that the track record works in our favor.

slippy2000 - That is great! I think that strong relationships between your high school and Fordham can only help. Again, best of luck to your son.
