HADES vs NYC prep

who's better?

HADES…
Especially Andover, Exeter, Deerfiel, and St.Pauls.

Cramps3, considering you have never been to any of these schools and are applying to them I would refrain from commenting on them since you know nothing about them. I would tkae anything you saw with all the salt in the black sea.

It would actually be more correct to say: I would take anything you saw with a grain of salt. If you say “all the salt in the black sea” it implies that you want them to believe everything they saw however this is wrong especially when you just said that they have never been to any of those schools.

Your Welcome. :D

Personally,
I have a great respect for the NYC preps as well as TJ (Thomas Jefferson in VA) as they are very prestigious and academically-strong as well. As a matter of fact, the Bronx Technical School (NY) has had more Nobel Laureutes in the Sciences than all the HADES combined.

how about main line schools? shipley, haverford, baldwin, agnes irwin, episcopal etc?

You might enjoy this lively discussion http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/prep-school-admissions/330201-nyc-day-schools-rank-higher-than-bding-schools.html

There are so many nationally recognized day schools in NYC, e.g Dalton, Brearley, Chapin, Horace Mann, Fieldston, Trinity to name a few. I personally believe that NYC prep schools and the HADES are all extraordinary schools. (but the boarding school and day school experience are totally different).
I recently talked to an admission officer at NMH who worked at Fieldston a few years ago. She believes that NMH offers a superior education.

Just read that thread Burb Parent, very educational as I knew virtually nothing on NYC prep schools. Thanks for the link. When I was 11 and attended school outside of the states, a large portion of my friends went off to boarding school ( I didn’t apply) and seeing as I was staying in my day school I was an advocate for our local prep and how much better it was. It all depends on your perspective I think.

this is just a nitpicking post, but Im in a nitpicky mood – the high caliber private schools in NYC are not “prep” schools. They are officially called “Independent Schools”, and are just called “private schools” by kids that go there, and parents that send them. The only schools with “prep” in them in the Metropolitan Area are the private Catholic schools. And as with boarding schools there are definite rankings and tiers and peculiar characteristics for each one. The top ones rival and some overwhelm “hades” schools.

Thank you nhmm, it’s been a rough week so I’ll chime in too. I was born and raised in NYC. My City friends and I went to private schools in the City and never, ever did we or our parents, faculty or schools themselves ever refer to them as prep schools. The only reference I’ve seen to NYC prep is on this forum and that absolutley pathetic but comical alleged reality TV show NYC Prep.
