haha only something like this could happen to me: 34/6 writing

well, im really happy about my 34 composite. the thing is, i got a 6 on my essay. yep...

sorry if its been asked before, but do you guys know if colleges place a lot of weight on the essay, if at all? i also have a 33 composite w/ a 9 essay, so if worse comes to worse i guess i can use that. thanks!

Simply put, the composite score is very important. Not to say that colleges don’t look at each component, including your essay score. I wouldn’t be deterred from submitting the higher composite.

If you are a good writer, make sure your application essay is the best, get a rec from an English teacher who can vouch for your essay skills, and if you’re articulate, by all means punish the interview.

You’re in a better position than having a higher essay but much lower composite. Proving your skills across the entire ACT is a lot harder than just one component.

It’s alright. I got a 33 on the English in September with only a 6 on the essay. You’re not alone.

ouch, im the complete opposite. 34/12 essay

Okay? How is that the opposite?

^ Hah. Looks like someone just wanted a chance to brag.

did i write 34, i mean 14/12

I got 12 Essay in June and 8 in September lol. I can write really well, it’s just the topic that really throws you off. In June, I had to write about if it’s ethical for companies to advertise products that were deleterious. In September, write about kids that were late to school. D

I got a 36 composite with an 8 essay. Ouch.

i’ve heard that colleges dont put that much weight on writing…so should i just send the 34?

anyone? i need to know pretty soon.

You could send both scores - the composite is pretty close on both. I’ve heard that colleges will use the one that makes you look the best, not because they want to give you a break but because that helps raise their rankings on US News. Good luck to you.
