i didn’t choose the thug life, the thug life chose me.

Their methodology is highly flawed.

First off, they only rank schools with over 10,000 students. Are schools with smaller student bodies automatically safer? Also, they directly count the number of crimes. “X” number of violent crimes on a campus with 10,000 students is way different than the same number of violent crimes a campus with 35,000 students, but this ranking does not factor that in.

Lastly, what about schools that don’t report all of their crimes and just try to sweep them under the rug? If crimes are reported, prevention, counseling, and other services can be provided. This ranking essentially punishes schools that do a good job of reporting crimes.

I’m sure there are many other issues…

Are UCLA and Berkeley really that bad? I’m surprised UCLA is #1. It’s in one of the nicest parts of LA.

Looks can be deceiving.

UCLA’s response…[UCLA a dangerous campus? Don’t believe it / UCLA Newsroom](Newsroom | UCLA)

I heard that UCLA trains our nation’s future gang leaders and mob bosses.

I think this article is a joke. I can’t imagine taking a walk around Beverly Hills being anywhere near as dangerous as walking around Temple in Philly or Johns Hopkins in Baltimore.

This is a biased report that favors private schools. I can’t say that I’ve been immune to this type of elitist attitude over the years. What I can say that if you’re not feeling safe while walking on the UCLA campus, you have some serious mommy issues and you probably wouldn’t feel safe anywhere without adult supervision. This report may come across as logical to a great deal of people, but that’s because they live in a bubble…

this report could be made by U$C folks/alums

The UCs are required to compile their own crime statistics (Clery Act) for each campus, the latest report is from 2011 and can be accessed at [University of California Police Department Annual Reports](http://police-statistics.universityofcalifornia.edu/).
