My dream school is NCSA, I want to go for Wig and Makeup Design. They require a portfolio to apply, (which I don't, and cannot have) but I talked with an Ad Com. there and she said that I did not have to submit one, but it would help. So what I am getting around to is, if I donate my hair to their Wig department, can that be a hook to get me in?

whoa..........

umm, you should take a picture of yourself and mail it to them maybe. If I were you I wouldn't donate my hair

Is this a joke? I hope it is, if not - weird...

No, this is not a joke. I just really really want to go to NCSA.

What's NCSA?

Think about it.

Do you think donating your hair is something exceptional or something? All it requires is balls and a trip to the stylist/salon/etc. Being an intel finalist is a hook because the amount of dedication, work, perserverance, (not to mention intelligence) needed to win is staggering. Being very very low income is a hook because the fact that you got great grades and test scores while living in a trailer shows your determination and character. See a trend?

Now, if you write about donating hair in your essay and how it affected your perspective on the difficulties cancer patients face, etc., and maybe if you added an EC or volunteered for cancer, etc. then you could turn it into a meaningful EC and/or an essay.

NCSA = north carolina school of the arts

you're the equivalent of the person who kisses up to teachers and turns in tissues boxes after tissue boxes for extra credit in all your classes

hehe. When I started public school I found the idea of donating tissue boxes for extra credit extremely absurd.

Honestly...the hair thing is pretty weird. Maybe when you're studying Wig & Makeup design you can donate your hair and create a wig from it, but as an applicant that sounds really crazy. Really, REALLY crazy. For all you know, it could work against you (this girl is crazy!).

isnt a hook something that pretty much makes you a shoo in?
in other words, not your hair im thinking

The hair donation thing would probably help you get into one of the more elite barber colleges.

my friend said "Locks of Love" got him into harvard.

Locks of Love got me into college

well, actually I donated my hair after I finished apps, but whatever. I think I'm one of 5 guys who has done locks of love.

Locks of Love is corrupt.

Yeah, first of all, if you actually read what the OP wrote, she is not talking about donating hair to make wigs for cancer victims.

She is talking about donating hair the school itself, for their wig department.

And as someone else pointed out, Locks of Love is a nice idea, but growing and cutting your hair is not going to get someone into a school they wouldn't otherwise get into.

And finally, as also has been pointed out, Locks of Love has come under more scrutiny recently and its record of charitable works is not getting it any gold stars.

theaterbrat: Thanks for mentioning how corrupt Locks of Love is. I was just about to mention that.

However, donating hair to the school itself might be a good idea but I'm not sure it would really give you much of an edge in admission. It's a nice gesture...I just don't know how highly the admissions people would think of it?
