Hair Styles For Women "Over 50"

I’ve always had long hair until the last two years, when it’s been shoulder-length or slightly shorter.

I’m 51 and am wearing a high ponytail today with large earrings because I didn’t feel like styling it today. It’s not long and dramatic like the Jane Fonda extensions, but it is definitely perky and youthful. However, I have it side parted and swept to the side and then up, so it looks a little less extreme than Jane Fonda’s.

Celebrity women are not allowed to look their age, hence the hair styles you see.

My uncle’s mom wore her hair in a long braid until she was 94. She was from Arizona and wore turquoise jewelry and her salt and pepper braid and I always thought she looked marvelous and very true to herself.

I fail to understand what connection hair length has to wrinkles or saggy skin. No length of hair is going to make them go away, and everyone is going to get them if they are fortunate enough to live long enough. (I can’t believe you describe Jane Fonda as “wrinkly.” She is incredible UNwrinkled for her age! )

Not everyone is obsessed with trying to look “youthful.” Thank doG. It is perfectly possible to look nice and like a vital, living being without straining for permanent youth.

It is liberating to let go of the idea that women must strive to look some age other than the one they are.

Jane is 79 years old and looks incredible! I’d say she has earned the right to wear her hair however she’d like simply because she’s made it in this world for 79 years!

Oprah wears a ponytail with bangs. Just wondering if her hair brings such strong sentiment…

I also believe she looks incredible and is a poster child for mini-lifts. Really, it’s all subjective, right? What one person thinks is beautiful, another doesn’t. However…how many 60+ women do you see going around with this hairstyle to a formal event? Not many. There’s a reason for that and it has nothing to do with confidence.

I thought of this thread during services today. The older woman in front of me had below shoulder length curly silvery white hair. That was fine but the last four inches or so were messily colored pink. I couldn’t tell if it was a deliberate look, she was finishing growing out an earlier dye job, or she’d accidentally leaned back into a bowl of beet juice or rested her head on a damp piece of red construction paper.

Sorry, I looked up Jane Fonda- I think the look was great! Kind of an I-dream-of-Jeannie retro style. Good for her!

Hmmm…I wonder if I could use damp blue construction paper to get those hidden blue streaks that I’ve been considering that coincidentally, would only be visible when I wore my hair in a ponytail?

And yeah, I’m a hypocrite - I’m the one who didn’t like man buns.
