Hair...

regarding female’s hair, what exactly must be done? the appointee book said that the standards require hair to not touch collar when down or be put up and less than three inches (I assume that means the length of a bun when put up? maybe this is where I’m confused lol). Anyway, I had assumed that we’d all have to cut our hair short, but if you can put it up in a bun that’s less than three inches, I wouldn’t have to cut my hair, which is a bit lower than my shoulders, because it is very thin and makes a tiny bun. I’ll cut my hair if I have to, but I’d prefer not to (eww me with short hair…combine that with absolutely no makeup and my first impressions will be very attractive hehe). Thanks a lot!

Umm.. I've been in Civil Air Patrol for almost 5 years now and we have the same grooming standards as the real AF so I've seen quite of few different things. True, you can keep your hair in a bun, but make sure you can do it REALLY REALLY quickly. We aren't going to have any time during bct, and what little time we do have, I don't think you want to have to be putting your hair up into a bun with.... also, you don't want it falling out of the bun during an exercise..... that would be bad news all the way around. My advice, and the advice from a medical turnback (female) from last year (she went through 2/3 of the training) says get it small for basic. You'll have time to grow it after.. oh, christmas.

As far as first impressions go, I'm sure everyone will understand... not to mention Cadating isn't what should be on our minds the for a long time, especially during beast. Hope that helps.

JSF09 speaks with wisdom on this. Simplify. You won't have the time to deal with anything else. Again, I repeat, whether you're male or female, if one of your primary worries is how you'll look with or without certain things (BCGs, contacts, makeup, perfect hair, clothes that are tailored for you, etc) BCT and USAFA may not be for you... Get over it--you'll be fine.

haha no I was just kidding about the first impressions...believe me, it's not a concern!! haha the hair was just more of a nostalgic thing I guess. I don't mind chopping it off, but I haven't had it really cut since the 4th grade so it'll just be a shocker to me. But I guess we're gonna be getting a lot of those!! thanks guys

I concur with what's already been said. You won't have time to mess with your hair and getting it cut (when you don't necessarily want to) is a wake up call that there'll be a lot of stuff here that goes on that you don't have a say in.
