I'm an incoming freshman. I originally applied for a plaza because they're nicer and all that. But after careful research =p I realized that halls will be a better fit for me because the social aspect of college is very important to me. So I did the natural thing, I submitted a CAR. It got denied. So I'm stuck with my triple in Sunset Village. =(

So here's my question (mainly for current UCLA/college students): Would it be advisable to try to get a hall for my 2nd year or is that just weird since it'll mostly be freshmen? That way I can get the college dorm feel at least once in college, albeit a bit late.

Where exactly in Sunset Village are you living? There are plenty of ways to be social in plazas, too. Hopefully you have/will make friends at orientation, which gives you a good base to connect with a bunch of other people.

If your building isn’t social, go to one of their rooms frequently if they live in a residence hall. Make friends with their roommates/floor. Also, talk to random people in your classes. That’s always fun =D.

It wouldn’t be weird to get a res hall 2nd year. Lots of 2nd years I know are living in Sproul Hall because it just got renovated.

IMHO, plazas can just be as social as dorms, and dorms can be dead too. it depends on the people living there, and i know plenty of floors within sunset/RT/de neve where great socials have occured.

a lot of 2nd years do get dorms, one reason being the cost savings. living in dorms isn’t weird; you yourself make the situation weird.

I’m a freshman in sunset village too…I don’t think I could deal with the small size of the res halls, so I opted for the plazas. Once our room assignments are out, if you still feel socially isolated, you could hit me up if we end up in the same building.

Thanks for the helpful comments, I suppose I shouldn’t feel to badly about it then. In fact I do feel better about it now.
I still wish i could have saved 2 grand a year with a hall lol.

TheRageKage: I don’t know which building of sunset village nor do I know how to find out. I’ve tried logging on to my housing but it’s all about money and I can’t find my housing offer anymore.

Gotlactose: thanks, I’ll keep that in mind.

Definitely not weird to live in a hall second year. By then I’m sure you’ll have ideas for who you want to live with, and the two of you can decide exactly where you want to live.
