Anybody see any issues/problems with visiting Wake for the first time on Sat., 10/31 (Halloween)? I have a friend whose son visited another college campus on Halloween, and the over-the-top partying left the impression that the school was a bigger "party school" than it was in reality. Do you expect that things will look vastly different at Wake on Halloween than any other Saturday of the year???

I really can’t answer your question. But, I notice that the football team is home v. Miami that day.

It is not going to be like Chapel Hill, plus it is parents weekend vs. Miami on 10/31. You should be fine.

Yes.

Parent’s Weekend has never stopped anyone. They eventually go back to their hotels and to bed.

yes, it is Holloween and a Saturday - it should look different! Also, there is an annual community event, Project Pumpkin, where kids from less than stellar neighborhoods can come and trick or treat on campus - big volunteer event, but I am not sure if it actually happens on Halloween. My D usually volunteers - pretty big event.

Also, there will be tons of parents roaming around - and the bookstore, etc. is super crowded. However, the football game is that day, so once that starts most parents are off campus.

If you have to spend the night in a hotel, hopefully you already have reservations.

^ PP is either the Tuesday or Thursday before Halloween, can’t remember which one.

My D had her interview on the Friday of Parents Weekend last year. It actually was a perfect time to be there. Got to see the type of students and parents at the school, lots of things going on, and the football game was a great added benefit. It really gave the flavor of Wake. You do need to have your hotel reservations by now though. We stayed downtown so it was a good way to see that area of Winston since not next to the campus.
Good luck!

If you are interested there is a traditional Halloween concert given by the university orchestra. It is a really fun time, the different sections plays jokes on each other and on the conductor, as well as great music of course. It is very well-attended, so if you are interested I would call the music office (tickets are free to students, I’m not sure about non-students, but it is something you need a ticket for). I went last year as a sophomore and wish I had gone as a freshman.
