Hamilton offers top notch degrees in sciences. More importantly Hamilton offers students tremendous opportunities to conduct research with professors. I knew a couple of friends who stayed on campus last summer doing biological research. As with all LACs make sure that Hamilton has the major you are looking for–for example, Hamilton doesn’t offer an engineering degree or an education major, etc. You can still be a teacher or an engineer, but just be aware. As a side note, as prospective students you know what you’re generally interested in, but you are far away from declaring a major. Just wait until you have that one class that changes your life…it’ll happen. It always does. Best of luck to all of you applying ED!

Hey guys, Hamilton contacted my mom to ask for more information about our “farm”. They would only do that if they are working on a FA package, right? If they are working on my FA package, would it be safe to assume they accepted me? Obviously this is just speculation until Saturday. Even so…

Hamilton is need-blind. Doubt very much that they are working on a FA package for you says anything about your admission decision.

So they do FA packages for every person that applies? I didn’t realize that. Shoot! I thought I was on to something. =/

I don’t follow Int’l95’s point. The fact that Hamilton is need blind simply means they make admissions decisions without regard to need. That does not suggest, whatsoever, that they compute financial aid for all applicants. What would be the point of doing that? In fact, that would make sense only if H was NOT need blind, so that the financial aid need could be taken into account in the admissions determination. While one cannot say with any certainty that this means you will be admitted, I do think it is an encouraging sign in the sense that it is hard to think that you were in the auto-reject pile.

That’s closer to my line of thinking, Heights. Of course I won’t know until Saturday, but I just don’t see them wasting time looking for extra information to add to my FA app if they are planning on rejecting me. I guess this just adds to my anticipation!

FA is a separate office from admissions, so they probably have two different workstreams. I agree that it wouldn’t make sense to do busywork for candidates that are obvious rejects, but it doesn’t mean you’re in either - they simply will need FA packages for anyone who does make the final cut, so they’re obviously getting them ready to go.

Knowing how admissions works at most schools, there are two readers for every file. At least one reader must say you are a candidate for you to get to the committee, two No’s at most places means you don’t make it to the committee. (At some places, two Yes’s means you’re in without a committee decision.) So if we assume that no FA package work would be done for anyone without at least one Yes from a reader (not a guarantee, but colleges are like everywhere else, they don’t do unnecessary work), the best you can hope for is this means you’re still in the game.

Less than 48 hours until decisions are released! Did you all get that email reminding you about it? I’m so anxious!

Yes! I am really nervous too… But the only thing we can do is waiting for it right?

I got Defer!!! Oh no!!!

Well I got accepted and almost no financial aid. Maybe you will get my spot because there is no way we can spend 53000 a year. What is the chance they got my package wrong?

Well I’m a international student so I don’t know if I can get your spot maybe u can send email to them and ask for recalculating

Lol I will sure try. I couldn’t believe the price! The calculator said 15000 but my parents are divorced and remarried and I think that complicated things.

OK SORRY FOR THE DOUBLE POST, but I can’t find an edit button. I believe this is the place that students post their scores for prospective students to weigh their own apps against, so I’ll go ahead and post mine below.

ACT:33
GPA:3.98
Class Rank: 5/65…or something like that
AP/IB: Not offered
EC: Nothing worth mentioning except that I took a gap year before I applied to travel Europe for several months. I wrote my essay about buying lasagna in an M&S in central Dublin, and I assume that was my hook if anything was!
Location: I don’t think that Hamilton cares about where you are from, but I don’t honestly remember. If it did matter, I’m from rural Missouri.
Interview: I ultimately chose not to interview. I would have had to send in a video interview, which I wasn’t comfortable with (video cameras turn me into the most awkward dude on the planet), and I didn’t think it would add much to my application. Most of the questions were more or less answered on paper. They strongly recommend you interview. I probably should have.

thank you for posting your stats! im most likely applying ED2 so it’s nice to weigh my stats against

I got deferred. Honestly, I don’t know what more I could have done. Congrats to those who where accepted. (I think location does play a part, I am from NY and I think that counted against me.)

I was also deferred. I know that my GPA could have been much better, but I’m still so sad this has happened. I feel like I didn’t prepare myself enough for this news at all! :(

^Hamilton Secrets is not an accurate representation of the college or it’s student body. HamSecrets is home of the trolls. You would know that if you actually went here.

Hello evryone! I am really excited about Hamilton because of the atmosphere and high academic ranking. It seems like the funnest school to be in.
I am international student from Romania (studying in. US high school right now) and I was wondering what my chances are to get into Hamilton. Thanks!!

SAT: 2240 (CR 750, Math 690, Writing 800- Essay 11)
SAT II: Math 2 740, German 740, US History 700)
ACT (only self reporting 31-Essay 10
TOEFL: 115/120

Ranking: 1/95 GPA 4.0. UW during junior and senior year(valedictorian at a medium sized private, fairly good ranked Christian high school in IL)
(5 AP’s offered at our school) CALC AB 5, US GOVT 5, US History 4 (took honors physiology instead of AP physics because I am very interested in anatomy and I thought AP English was a reach for me; honors English is a good fit (just a little to easy but it is enough since I am an international student)

EC’s:
- Assistant in Dental projects throughout high school (80 hours/year) + shadowing dentists and orthodontists
- Community Service (Hospice all freshaman year: advertising, raising money, interacting with the sick) ( By the Hand and feed my starving children during senior year a few times)
+Piano over 10 Years (played for pit orchestra, dramatic play, contests, church) took master classes with 3 professors from Wheaton acollege
+Sports (Soccer Varsity sophomore and senior year- UNOFFICIAL because of visa issues at private school) Club: sophomore year on he U18 team when I was 16). Also lacrosse JV team during sophomore year (I was snot allowed to play any sports for my private school) - Writing (in Romania-probably not relevant)

Also, applying for financial aid… could probably pay around $15,000/ year.

Recommendations are probably really good (I’ve been switching schools so no teachers have known me throughout high school, but I got a good one from dentist and dental project leader who’s known me all my life)
Essay for Hamilton was my best (in my oppion) Commonapp. was about experience in the dental projects
Will interview in 1 week (which will probably go really well because I usually leave a good impression because of my good English accent and my outgoing and talkative nature)

Thank you for your thoughts (even though they are not going to get me in, they are encouraging)

Is anyone else waiting to hear about the ED II decisions coming out tomorrow night? Best of luck to everyone who applied!
