So of all the schools I've visited, I really like the vibe of Hamilton and Lafayette best (of course, I still have to get accepted to them). So I was wondering which one do you think would be better for a premed student with my stats....

So if you think I can get into these schools, which one would you say you prefer and why?

I think you have a shot at either school, but would rate your odds a bit higher at Lafayette. If you were a recruited athlete at Lafayette you’d be a shoe-in.

I say that as the father of a daughter who is a junior at Lafayette and whose current s/o is a junior at Hamilton. Both are majoring in the life sciences and have taken the usual pre-med weed-out courses. Both had stats somewhat higher than yours and both have said they were challenged in the required math and chemistry courses, but but survived with a lot of hard work.

You can get into a good medical school from either school. The key is a good GPA, good MCAT scores and good recommendations. I’d apply to both and, if both schools remain at the top of your list, you should go to their respective admitted students programs and get a sense of what your prospective first year communities are like.

By the way, my daughter loved Hamilton too, but is not so fond of snow and decided not to apply to any schools north of NYC. I see you enjoy skiing so that might be a plus in Hamilton’s favor, although Lafayette students aren’t far from the Pocono ski resorts. Good luck. You have two good (and different) choices; I didn’t ramble on about the differences as I’m guessing by now that you have already identified them.

You could definitely get into both, Lafayette with NO problem whatsoever.

As far as deciding between the two, I would definitely pick Lafayette… I am biased, though because I live here (on what’s known as College Hill) so I grew up being familiar to Lafayette. It’s a really great school and Easton is a wonderful town. As far as skiing goes there’s plenty to do around here. I happenned to be a ski instructor actually in the Poconos (about a 30-40 minute drive from the campus).

If you wanna know more send me a PM i have a whole wealth of knowledge/info to give you about Lafayette/Easton.!

If you are able to pick a favorite school, you might want to consider applying early decision. Lafayette has a much higher ED than RD acceptance rate, 68% vs 42%. I don’t know about Hamilton.
