Hamilton College Class of 2023 RD

Daughter accepted! Good luck to everyone else!

S is in! 5 waitlists + 1 rejection this past week, so this one was great to see. Not the best financial aid he’s seen (the worst, actually, which is surprising), but workable. And for everyone else who keeps getting waitlisted–don’t give up–one is bound to go your way sooner or later.

This was one of his top 4, so especially nice. Plus his grandmother grew up in Clinton, so a cool family connection.

I got in!

@gstee8 It is tough. Same here.

Waitlisted

also an fyi the portal hack didn’t work for me earlier and I was accepted so it isn’t reliable

Waitlisted. Toured , interview , sent in art portfolio. Scores are lower than average so I’m surprised but 4.15 gpa and tons of ECs

@mathematician Those aren’t my only rejection either - just the liberal arts schools. I wish I knew what I was doing wrong because I poured my heart and soul out into my applications just to be told I’m not good enough. The Common Application has made things so much easier to apply and it’s kind of annoying for someone like me. I see the same people on these threads getting into every school and I can’t be anything but jealous. I know they’ve worked hard, but I just wish I could get one school because in the end you can only go to one. It’s very disappointing to get rejected while someone who is accepted is not most likely not going to go anyways. It is what it is. Onto the next and the next aren’t any easier.

Who is going to accept or has accepted their spot on the waitlist?

ahhh! Accepted!! 1370 SAT, 3.7 GPA

I was rejected. I have never believed that.

S19 accepted.

@GStee8 - don’t lose hope. Where else did you apply? Did you have any low match/safeties?

DD got in!! Probably not going to take her spot because she has had a week to fall in love with another school. But we shall see. Down to the final 3 results and then we can finally move forward!!

@GStee8 I read your response at it was quite poignant and as a parent it makes me feel for you and I am hoping you receive some great news soon. My son was accepted at Hamilton, Kenyon and University of Rochester as well as some safe schools. In the past few days he’s been rejected at Swarthmore and waitlisted at Haverford & Notre Dame so the Hamilton acceptance was a pleasant surprise considering they had over 2000 more applications this year. I agree with you on the whole Common App thing. My son applied at 12 schools but we’ve heard of people who applied to many more. He applied at 4 safe schools, 4 competitive schools and 4 reach schools. Good luck and please let us know where you end up.

I almost can feel for most of you who got rejected. But I am not sure if you could relate what we are suffering. Coming from Third world country, not having enough guidance or prep, having astronomical financial need, the applications go straight down the drain. I have college rejecting me saying that my needs are very high and if I somehow contribute more bucks that I would be accepted. And of course, with the fin documents we sent them its clear that in no way possible can we contribute any more bucks. It’s just another way of saying if you’re poor, g o f^ u r s e l f.
And the worst part is that I’ve worked really hard. Transitioning from broken English to 1520 on SAT is no joke. And all the impressive extras also mean nothing. In the end, it all boils down to money, so yeah being poor and unprivileged sounds like a really bad joke to colleges. But I bet they are laughing.
But the positive part is that I helped them bring the no of applications up, and lower the acceptance rate. Happy to know that my contributions will help them climb USNews ranking the next year.

@Trixy34 @gonzaga35 As of right now the schools I am considering are Southern Methodist University, Villanova, and St. Lawrence (got big scholarship from them). I applied to Kenyon as well, but there was a mix-up with my application file so I haven’t gotten my decision yet. Hopefully it will come in the next few days. Other than that I am waiting to hear from Tulane (Deferred EA), Michigan, Harvard, Dartmouth, and Duke. We will see what happens I guess.

No one is laughing.

I guess I would never know.

I would just like to point out how the earlier mentioned “hack” worked. I was expecting a rejection or waitlist because I wasn’t allowed to register for the admitted students days - I got waitlisted! However, I wanted to say I am so happy for everyone that got in. for everyone that didn’t get in and are waiting on other college responses, try your best to stay out of college confidential since it tends to make us anxious for no reason. Most universities view us holistically and as I always say “you’ll end up where you belong.” Best of luck Class of 2023!! I’m very proud to be part of this generation of bright students.
