Anyone know when Hamilton College is releasing 2023 ED1 acceptances?
Last year, ED1 decisions were released Thursday, December 14th at 8:00 pm.
The portal and a recent email both said 8pm on the 13th.
ED decisions came out at 8 pm tonight. Son admitted for January 2020. A bit disappointed to not be admitted for the fall, but thinking about how we could make this work.
Has anybody else heard?
@justpassingthru My son was a Jan Class of 2021. Let me know if you have any questions. While we were unprepared for that offer, and confused/concerned in the beginning, in the end it was an amazing opportunity for my son and we all are so pleased it worked out this way. The London program exceeded our expectations and gave him a tight knit circle of friends entering Hamilton. Now finishing first half of Soph year, and he is fully integrated at Hamilton with many friends, including his core London gang.
@justpassingthru, my son is a freshman at Hamilton and was admitted as a January, 2019 admit. He has spent the last 3.5 months studying in London with approximately 40 other Hamilton “Jans”. Coming home tomorrow! He applied ED1 and was very upset when he got the news about starting in January. He applied to a few other colleges but was sold on Hamilton after Accepted Students Day. The London program, for him, has been incredible. He’s traveled throughout Europe, made close friends with the other Jans, and has gained so much independence. If your son would like to speak to my son about the London experience, pm me.
My daughter was admitted ED to the class of 2023. She is excited.
He thinks he wants Hamilton but is not interested in going to London as a freshman. Does anybody know any January admits who accepted Hamilton’s offer but did not do the London program?
@justpassingthru, you could reach out to Hamilton and perhaps they could put you in touch with students who didn’t go to London. I know that there were some students who chose to stay home and take classes at a local college, another student did a program in Morocco, and another did the credit bearing Semester at Sea program.
@Dragonflygarden, congratulations to your daughter!
@justpassingthru MY D just finished up her first semester in London. She applied ED2 and when she got the Jan offer she and I were adamant about her not going to London. She changed her mind about that and is glad she did. The program has distinct weaknesses in terms of dorm location and academics, but overall she is very happy she went. She has a very tight-knit group of friends, it’s a very cohesive cohort so the transition is a bit easier than on campus. She travelled to the Greek islands, Barcelona, Venice, Wales, Paris… and explored London. She has several classmates from her HS that started Hamilton in the fall, and keeps in contact with them - after the first month or so she realized she was not really ‘missing’ anything in terms of experience. It’s really all about the mindset that you go into it with, and if I could do it over again I would have been more excited and supportive from the outset. We waited for RD acceptances and spent a few months in limbo instead of rejoicing over being accepted and just mentally committing to Hamilton.
That said if you are interested in majoring in certain things there are limited courses offered in London in some areas, and there is a course load impact on your later trajectory through Hamilton. If that’s the case taking a semester at another educational institution where you can earn credits might be better.
I’d be happy to discuss further, just PM me if you have any questions.
Did the ED admitted students here receive a date for Admitted Students Days in April? Our S19 applied to a fairly long list of schools and, without counting chickens before they hatch, I’m still making a list of Admitted Students Day dates so we can at least get a grip on when they all are. We may have to plan quickly in March to figure out how to get back to schools he’d like to visit.
@homerdog No date was supplied at this time and the Hamilton website still lists last year’s date.
Letter online said April 15th.
My son was admitted ED to Hamilton also. We are all really delighted. He loved the college and didn’t apply anywhere else as he had his heart set on Hamilton. So glad he was accepted.
