Hamilton College's social scene

Hi everyone! I am planning on applying to Hamilton ED (but I haven’t visited it yet) because of their generosity with financial aid and also because my counselor thinks it’s a match for me. I was wondering if someone could shed a light on Hamilton’s social scene/life. Also, how diverse is Hamilton (in terms of the numbers of countries represented on campus). Thank you!

Are you from another country?

@Trixy34 – Yes, but I currently go to school in the US.

30% of the class of 2021 are US people of color, and 6% are international students. Also on their website - current student body comes from 49 states and 49 countries.

I can’t really speak too much to the social scene as I am a parent. Sounds to me like a fair amount of partying, and lots of on-campus social events organized by various clubs and groups.

I’m an alum, and haven’t set foot on campus in over 20 years, so I don’t know that I can speak to the social life now. Are there particular aspects of the social life you are concerned about? Hamilton tends to be a pretty friendly place. It’s small and insular, but I’d say anyone can find their niche. Most of your social life will involve parties on campus, whether a large all-campus party or just small get-togethers in your room/suite. Though they do bring in musical acts and different entertainment that you can attend with friends. In the surrounding area, there’s a nice art gallery, and there are some really good restaurants - Middle Eastern, Greek and old school upstate NY Italian food, as well as your regular American food. And of course, there is a movie theater, but other than that, there’s not a heck of a lot to do off campus. There is a small mall nearby - you don’t have to go far if you need anything.

So, generally lots of partying and going out to the local bar, but that’s not something you have to do. There’s no pressure to be any particular type of person at Hamilton. Actually, if you read the reviews on Unigo, there are lots of comments about the social life there. They all sound pretty accurate to me based on my experience. It’s been a long time, but I think the Hamilton culture endures.
