Hi! Anyone else applied ED1 to Hamilton? Have you heard anything from the college yet? I’m extremely anxious about the decision. Abjectly despondent, but still a shred of optimism left. Really looking forward to the ‘judgment day’. International student here, from a third world developing country, with good stats besides the SAT scores. Wonder how much they really weigh on the SAT. Anyway, has anyone got the faint idea of when they will be notifying us about our decision? I heard they often release the decisions before December 15? Haven’t heard anything from them yet.
Another Hamilton ED1 international applicant from a third-world developing country is here. May I ask, where exactly are you from?
According to the portal, Hamilton plans to notify the decision on 8pm, US time. I heard the exact opposite: they often release the decisions on December 15.
I know it shouldn’t be, but Hamilton is ‘the one’ for me. Cannot wait for the decision!
@ihtanh98 I’m from Bhutan, and you?
I’m Vietnamese. What do you like most about Hamilton?
@Ihtanh98 I really love how Hamilton considers writing and speaking skills as cornerstone values and strives to foster them in its students. Besides that, they’re really supportive of international students and diversity. Also, they have a strong science department, great alums, career advising etc… Hamilton is just the one for me. Unfortunately, I don’t think they’ll realize how valuable it is for me to get in haha. I know that I’m definitely getting rejected :’( What about you?
And have you heard anything from them at all after submitting the app, besides the letter acknowledging the app receipt?
Academically, everything I’m looking for is stellar at Hamilton: writing, Economics, CS, and Mathematics. Besides, its community seems to be the friendliest of the Northeast LACs. Also, the long culture of ‘Hamilton and Kirkland/ light side and dark side’, although may be hated by others, fascinates me.
How is your stats? IMHO, if you stats is solid enough (not too bad), you’re in to the next round. That’s when you essay and personalities shine. By the way, there is really nothing you can do to affect the decision, so cross your finger and just wait. Good luck to you!
After submitting the application, I received some automatic emails about the school. Well, nothing personalized. But I really did reach out to the admission staffs and make sure they remember my name, so I think that may help.
“the long culture of ‘Hamilton and Kirkland / light side and dark side,’ although maybe hated by others . . .” (6)
I know a few people who have expressed this opinion. But I’m not sure I trust them.
“. . . fascinates me” (6)
As it would all discerning people.
My stats, besides my SAT score, are good enough to have my application read. I’m just worried about the big dent my sat score will create on my app. They could even overshadow the good grades in my transcript. Yeah, just wait for more misery or an absolution lol.
@merc81 If I remember correctly, one of your comment in Hamilton’s thread brought me to a research paper in 2004 about the stereotypes of people in the 2 sides. Although the conclusion was that the distinction between the two should be eliminated, I gently disagree and genuinely think that the distinction is one of the things that set Hamilton apart from a surfeit of very identical Northeast LACs.
“I know a few people who have expressed this opinion. But I’m not sure I trust them.” (7)
Why do you say so? And what is your opinion on this matter?
@collegepappy I wish you the best of luck. Keep in mind that according to the Common Data Set, the GPA is “Very Important”, whereas the standardized test score is only “Important”.
My son applied ED; we live in North Carolina. Any other Southerners out there?
The strength of the referenced research paper seems to lie in its disciplined attempt to trace the history of some of the language used on the Hamilton campus. Its limitation, though, may be that it might inadvertently convey that Hamilton students regularly use stereotypes related to the physical layout of the campus in order to navigate their social worlds, a concept that might barely occur – at least as a serious factor – to the majority of them.
“I . . . genuinely think that the distinction [between the diverse elements of Hamilton’s campus] is one of the things that sets Hamilton apart from a surfeit of very identical Northeastern LACs.” (9)
This is similar in perception to something I read elsewhere, and with which I also concur:
A small college is at its best if it can offer aspects of being more expansive, imaginative and diverse than its enrollment alone would indicate. Hamilton can do this – as decidedly as its peers cannot – not simply with its enviable conventional resources, but through the manifestly singular quality of its own history. The College can be a lot of other things as well, but this [a reference to several paragraphs] is what it is distinctly – and the one potential applicants should know about.
@Asheditorial Welcome aboard.
@merc81 You are the coolest around here. Following several posts of yours in various different threads, I recognize that you seem to have ‘a thing’ for small LACs, especially Hamilton College. Having gone through all 18 pages of Hamilton thread (I wonder if this is unusual), I see that you are consistently the most active here. Are you somehow related to the college?
Oh, and again, if I recall correctly, you’ve refused to reveal personal information about you once so that you can continue giving subjective opinions on CC. If that’s the case, you can disregard my question.
@lhtanh98 Thanks! Good luck to you too! I hope that both of us get in haha
HI everyone! anyone else freaking out about the 15th :((
and I got some questions
Will being a legacy help my application at all? I have not so great Sat scores
but other parts of my application are pretty solid.
and does anybody know when exactly the decisions will be out? like
what time?
Thanks so much I’m from Ethiopia btw
@hamihopeful The fact that you are both a legacy and an URM is definitely a boost, although I don’t know how much it is.
The decision will be out at 8pm EST, Dec 15. Wish you luck.
Isn’t there any chance that they’d release the decisions sooner than the called deadline? I hope they do cause I can’t take it anymore lol. Anyway, good luck to ya’ll. Looks like domestic students don’t want to comment. We’re all internationals here
@lhtanh98 thanks.you too @collegepappy I heard last year’s decisions were released on December 12 I’m not sure though. it would be great if we got to hear early. I’m having a hard time concentrating on school because I’m soo anxious. hope we all hear geat news. hopefully we’ll meet next fall.
Middlebury released its decisions yesterday. I really hope Hamilton releases it soon
