Hamilton vs Binghamton

hey guys,

im really stuck between Hamilton college and Binghamton right now. i know that the two have basically nothing in common except the fact that they're in upstate new york, but i need help making a decision!!

i know these responses will probably also be biased, but id like your opinions!

i want to major in anthropology and both the schools offer it. the only downside is having to pay full tuition (53k) at hamilton, vs the 16k at bing. the other pros of bing are starting school later than at hamilton, having more $$ for other things, paying 15k not 50k to study abroad, etc. The cons would be a larger setting, more people, worse food?

i just really want to know if the alumni network at hamilton is really as great as they say and whether being 120K in debt would really be worth it. paying off debt is not what me or my parents want to be doing for the next however-many-years, but i really did love hamilton and the people there when i visited.

id really appreciate your responses and words of wisdom!

thanks!!

Personally I have loved my time at Hamilton, but I’m not sure if it is worth it if you have to go into a serious amount of debt. I’m from California, and I probably would have given the UCs a LOT more consideration if going to Ham was going to involve paying off loans for an extremely long time after college. The alumni network is incredible, at least in my personal experience.

Just a side note, when you study abroad as a Hamilton student you pay directly to the study abroad program. Some colleges require that you pay college tuition, and then they cover your study abroad fees, but this is not the case at Hamilton. I have been abroad for my entire junior year, and as a result my parents have spent less than half of what they would have had I been at Ham for the year.

really blondie08? thanks so much for your feedback!

did you go on a Hamilton study abroad trip, like a year in spain/france, or did you pick a program from another university?

thanks this helps a lot! since i am definitely planning on studying abroad, that could save me a lot of $$$
