Hamilton vs. Colgate vs. Lehigh

any thoughts?

dude… .

but it all depends on what you want to study and what size of a school you want. Hamilton is the smallest, then Colgate, and then Lehigh. Personally I like Colgate best.

I personally thought Hamilton was more laid back than Colgate, despite what guidebooks might have you believe. I haven’t seen Lehigh, but Lafayette is a lot like Colgate

I did the overnight host program at Colgate and at Hamilton. Before sleeping over at both colleges, I had Colgate as my #1 choice, slightly over Hamilton as my #2.

After sleeping over Colgate, I was disappointed. I had a really nice host and he had really nice friends, but life at Colgate did not seem too fun! My host and their friends said they were upset by the amount of work they got at Colgate. It was as if they were given work for the sake of being busy. They said a typical schoolnight (which I observed to be true) was to go to classes, and then go back to your room to do your homework for the rest of the night. When I slept over Colgate, this was exactly the case. The entire time I was there, the host and everyone on his floor was only doing their hours and hours of homework. I asked them if the school did much to bring entertainment for the kids, because I remember that on the tour, they talk about Lupe Fiasco. The kids I stayed with said besides like one big event per year, they were left on their own. As for entertainment? The students I stayed with said it was ultimately the frat parties on the weekend-- that’s it.

At this point I was pretty bummed out-- if that was my first choice of college, then what would be in store for Hamilton?

My experience at Hamilton was fantastic! =]
My host was so involved-- even on a weekday! His life was so much more than homework. When I got there, my host had already finished his homework and was ready to give me a typical Hamilton experience. We went salsa dancing-- not my cup of tup, but after ten minutes of stubborn close-mindedness, I really had a lot of fun (even though I was not good at all)! After dancing, we went to dinner-- my host (chinese major) meets with his class and professor every Tuesday, and can only speak chinese with them. Needless to say, it was an interesting experience. Later that night, my host and I went to Hamilton’s weekly trivia competition-- it was the most fun I had in a while, and the place was packed with Hamilton students who do that every week! Overall, I learned that the Hamilton student gets an awesome education, but do not limit themselves to just work. At Hamilton, students are involved and want to have fun. The college does so much to keep their students active and limitless with the thousands of activities it brings in each year.

After my visit, I applied ED1 to Hamilton and got in! =]

OVERALL (if you didn’t feel like reading that):

 1. Hamilton
 2. Colgate

Both schools are great academically but I think the difference is in the school spirit and student attitude. When I visited Hamilton last spring a majority of the kids i saw were wearing Hamilton clothing and were upbeat and cheerful. If i were to compare the students at Hamilton to high school students I tihnk they would be the kids who had a ton of friends went to parties on the weekend and still performed very well academically. At Colgate I felt this jockish type of vibe. Those kids in high school who are on 2 varsity sports, great academically and LOVE to party. They also seemed very laid back
