So I’m an incoming freshman at a local csu and I am taking 17 credits. Three 5 unit courses: Biology, Art, and English, and one 2 unit course that every freshmen has to take. I was wondering if that was too much of a workload for my first semester of college, and could I handle a part time job? In high school, I took a lot of AP classes and clubs and such, but I don’t know if that is even a good enough gauge to see how much course work I can handle. Any advice?
That depends on you… You’ll be in class just 17 hours per week. Plan an hour or two outside of class for each per week - leaves you with many hours each week. You’ll sleep some but, if you are good at managing your time, an on-campus job is probably still doable.
Try 10 h or fewer for weekly job.
I agree that it should be no more than 10 hours per week.
You need to accommodate time for projects and papers at midterms. You need time for “household” chores.
English always has a lot of reading and writing tasks.
