Handwritten note regarding my application essay from admissions officer

Today I received a handwritten, personal note from an admissions officer saying that she enjoyed reading my essay. I was flattered and impressed because most schools don't make personal gestures like that. Does Clark do this for most applicants? I'm trying to get some idea of the meaning behind this, if there is any at all, haha. Any thoughts?

D received a similar handwritten note a couple of weeks ago (her app was in very early). It certainly seems like a positive sign.

When did you all send in your applications? I sent my application (RD) to Clark 10/14/09 and sent the supplement 11/23/09.

I think I submitted everything January 4th. But yeah, I’m assuming it’s a positive sign. I was just surprised. I really like what I’ve read about Clark so far–I’ve heard great things about Worcester and I hope I get in!

D applied over Thanksgiving break – she had one EA so got all her apps in at basically the same time. We visited Clark over the summer and she really liked it.

I hope I get something like that! I really want to go to Clark U!

I’m a Clark alum and my daughter was accepted early decision in mid-Dec. I think it’s great that Clark takes the time to read and to carefully consider each application. But that’s what makes Clark so special. I would have to say that receiving a handwritten note about your essay has to be a good sign. We are very excited about Clark, and I’m looking forward to spending time in Worcester and on campus after all these many years. Good luck to all!

Do you think every applicant gets direct feedback from the admissions committee?

Nussy:Not sure if everyone gets one. My S applied mid-Dec. Clark has been maintaining strict radio silence except for one phone call from a coach. No online status, no email trying to remind applicants they applied to Clark.

I’m assuming Clark will send all regular decisions towards the end of March. Does anyone know for sure?

I believe the admissions letters for RD will be sent on Mar 26.

I’ve been returning all their emails about my application and all that saying how much I really want to go to Clark. Do you think that my level of interest is considered?

My son sent all of his things in very early, as well but no special handwritten notes! I think that is most certainly a good sign, one to help keep you interested in Clark as your other acceptances roll in. My son had an interview with an alum and he felt it went well, but I wasn’t so sure when I read her reply to his thank-you email. It was very bland and more of a ‘good luck with your future’ sort of reply. It made my heart sink, but then my husband said he felt it was just more of a generic response and not to take it too literally or read to much in it.
Well, I guess we’ll have to wait and see. My son was wondering about Clark just today. It will be a long wait over the next 5 weeks.

Capecodlady: I wouldn’t worry much about alum interview feedback. The interview is more for the applicant’s benefit.

My d. just graduated from Clark (she finished one semester early). I remember that she got a handwritten note from an admissions officer about her essay. Shortly thereafter, the school invited her to interview for a substantial scholarship (which she got). I would say that the note is a very good sign.

So maybe no handwritten notes is not a good sign :frowning:
Oye, the waiting is hard.

Hi everyone, my d received a handwritten note commenting on how impressive her academics were, etc. She received a letter yesterday offering her admissions and a Presidential Scholarship $15K a year. Meanwhile she was waitlisted at Brandeis. We are in MA, so hopefully others will also receive these today.

Booklover: congrats to your daughter! We’re in CA so it would sure be exciting to have something in the mail this week.
Poor D is about to jump out of her skin with anticipation. All her apps were done so long ago (she did Dec. 1 EA for Goucher and since all her schools were Common App, she got them all in by Dec 1) so it has really felt like a long wait.

I can only imagine. Our son got his in about three weeks later, just before Christmas, and it seems like eternity already.

Pleasant surprise today! S2 was accepted with Presidential Scholarship.
I thought we would have to wait a few more weeks. I’m tempted to send flowers to the folks in admissions! :-)

Merlin: where are you located? (Just trying to gauge mail times) & congrats to your family!
