Handwritten or Typed Applications

In your opinion, what do you think is a better way to submit a college application? Does it look unprofessional if one handwrites (neatly) their application? Or should one always opt to type it? I have read many contradictory things on this subject.

Also, if there is an option to submit online, should you do it? Or can you still mail it in?

These might sound like stupid questions but I am curious. Thanks!

I handwrote my apps, and I don't think they held it against me, though if you can type it all the better to save time. As for submitting it online, many colleges recommend that you do it online, since it's the most efficient manner of applying to colleges timewise, though I mailed in all of mine, so...

I'm mailing mine so that I can include a resume.

I would handwrite the apps, if you have time. Colleges usually prefer online apps (less paperwork, I guess) but a handwritten app always appears to me as more personal.

If you apply online can you still mail in an activity list? I guess you'd have to put your social security number, etc. on it?
