Handwritten post card from Vandy

D just got a neat Vanderbilt post card written by a current freshman congratulating her one being a NMSF and encouraging her to apply. Really sweet!

I got a hand-written postcard from a crappy local public school. =)

Wow that's awesome.. I wish any college would send me something that personalized.

Woooo. A current freshman.

I'm curious. Is this something that schools generally do to recruit top students? And did it seem like this was the freshman's part time job or was there some other motivation?

This is Vandy propaganda!

Though, if your daughter got this in November and hadn't thought of Vanderbilt yet, I don't think she should apply. Like bird rock said, this postcard was made most likely to recruit a top student. But the downside of that is that if this ploy works, then a lot of top students apply to Vanderbilt on a whim, and knock out people who have been in love with Vanderbilt who have great, but not as great stats.

No, I just asked a question. I honestly am curious.

Vandy has always been in the top 3 on her list and she was encouraged when she got this. I suspect that this was a job duty for this student. Since it specifically addressed her NMSF status, they are certainly within their rights to recruit any students they want.
I think what made this stand out is that rather than getting a computer generated form letter congratulating her NMSF status, this was a completely handwritten note. That's pretty classy and definitely "southern" etiquette, which is always a nice touch to have.
