I was unable to go to Dimensions, and I was able to see very little of Hanover on my athletic visit.

How would you all characterize/describe Hanover?

Thanks.

cute and little, i didn't see alot of it, but life in hanover definietly seemed centered around dartmouht to me, just had the feel of a some town, secluded from the busy world...i dont' know, that was just my impression over the 2.5 days i was there

Hanover is a cutesy little NH town. Sure, people have dinner in town (there are a ton of restaurants), go to movies, etc but 95% of the social life centers around campus itself. There are so many things going on all the time so the town isnt really that critical to the overall experience.

I heard that the Kmart is one of the student's largest centers of enjoyment. LOL In other words, outside of the campus, the place is pretty anitseptic.

Haha, more like they hate going there. Hanover/ the area is beautiful and awesome for outdoor lovers. But Dartmouth creates its own world. Its fun to go to Molly's or a place like that with friends on big weekends or maybe have a drink at Murphy's but its a campus oriented college first and foremost. And with dorm parties, big frat parties, house parties, cultural events, etc its hard to get bored. A few Manhattan types miss the bar scene, but personally I loved making circuits around to all the different things going on.

Hanover = EBAs, Molly's, Murphy's, Rumuntos, India Queen, Mai Tai (all restaurants, there are more too), The Nugget (movies), CVS Pharmacy, Banks, the book stores, the Co-op. Yeah, that's about all you really need Hanover for.
It's a perfect college town - if you need something for college you can probably find it in some random store.
If Hanover doesn't have it, West Lebanon does. It's a 15 min drive away and has lots of big stores.
Social scene is at Dartmouth, anything you have to buy is Hanover/West Leb.

I personally go to dinner at least once a week, and sometimes up to three, ha ha. It's not that campus food is bad, on the contrary. I just enjoy eating out. I recently have started enjoying eating at Zin's at the Hanover Inn, but a new Mexican place just opened up a few miles from campus, and there are a number of restaurants in the area. Ah, now I want to go out to dinner tonight, lol. Back to the question-

I love Hanover so so so so much. It's so "New England," as is the rest of the area (coming from Wyoming, that is a plus). It's a very small town, very focused on the college. I have had opportunities to work in the high school and around the community, however, and there definitely is a Hanover of its own.

I would say Hanover has two parts to the town itself. The part students see, and the other part. The part students see consists of about 3 blocks of shops and restaurants and essentials of whatever sort. The rest of Hanover is on the other side of the golf course, north of campus. I didn't even know it existed until April. That part is more like your regular town where people just live and get things done. It's less touristy and marketed.

Overall, it's a great little town with a lot of "charm" (don't gag). It's great to "spend the day in Hanover." As I sometimes like to do. Lunch, shopping around...walking.

apppro,

sounds absolutely perfect to me. I love "quaint."

It seems to me that Hanover lacks nothing; I could imagine the city lovers missing clubs, etc, but I'm not a club type. I'd rather sit back and enjoy a quiet New England town.

Thanks everyone.

I don't know if you can picture the town in Gilmore Girls....but it's kinda like that...lol.

my host took me on a "tour" of hanover, and we walked a couple blocks before returning to campus. i asked him "is that it?" and we laughed cause it was all there was.

Well, Taylor, at least you won't have to adjust! From what you have told me of Turlock, it's not much different.

I know it's not much different, albeit much better, than where I'm coming from.

hahahaha so true. did you hear where i have to go for my training trip? i'll be on my DOC trip and then have to fly back here for the trip which is about an hour away from home.

yeah, that's what you said. oh well, at least you can have your parents bring you whatever you forget to take to Hanover.
