Happy at Case?

I was going to make Case Western my second choice if I didn't get into Vanderbilt ED, and I keep hearing rumors that the students are miserable there. Is this true? It really has me worried, and I would love to hear from the students who actually attend the school how happy they are at going to Case? If this is true, and the students are infact generally unhappy, then I would love to know so I can make Washington & Lee or Trinity my second choice. Thanks so much!

For the most part, I keep wondering where all these miserable kids hang out, as most kids I know of at Case are wonderful and happy indaviduals. I mean yes, if you are looking for a party school you will be miserable and yes, engineers tend to not be as happy-go-lucky compared to other majors but I've never felt like this existed in overwhelming numbers on campus.
Think of it this way: usually on the first big snowfall most kids spend that evening out playing in the stuff, snowball fights, forts, what have you, despite the fact that we all know we're going to hate it in a few weeks time. On the other hand, there are some students who start *****ing at the first snowflake and instead stay in their rooms IMing others about how bad the snow is, despite the fact that there's nothing anyone can do about the Cleveland winter. The only real difference between the students who go out and have a blast and the ones who stay in and are miserable is that the first group CHOSE to go out and have fun!

Thanks for that. I guess there are miserable people everywhere, it is just that I continually hear that people are so horribly miserable there. To be honest, I'm not a big party person either. Don't get me wrong.. I like to have fun and stuff, but I'm not looking for a party school - so perhaps Case would be a good choice? Besides, I do love the snowy weather.

Any other comments? More than one person would be fantastic. Again, I appreciate it!

I think Stargirl has it right.

What I have heard is that Case students like it there--but they complain a lot!

Kids on this forum should understand that Case is in a city and there will always be things to do in ANY city, except maybe Newark, but in general every city. A lot kids fear that they will not have a social life at case and taht is probably because they didn't have one in high school and believe that college is time to shed the nerd outfit and become COOL. If you have any fear of social life at your first day living on campus, throw a party somewhere and invite anyone willing to show up. Serving alcohol might not be such a bad idea and usually only the really social students who want to have a good time show up. Carnegie mellon does this type of thing as a school, only its a boat dance and usually only social people who want to have fun show up because none of the CS kids can dance. Just a word to the wise, a cool person can MAKE social life happen, but then again how cool people can you find at case to join you?

My daughter is a freshman at CASE this year and from out of state. She has only been there a week & 1/2, but every time I talk to her she is thrilled. She has been out every night and has found lots to do. She does tend to be very social and open to new experiences while still being a serious student. From what I can see she couldn’t be happier! She too was wondering how social the school would be, but has found it to be very friendly with lots to do.

I'm a newcomer here at Case, and i love it here. There's almost always something to do if you look for it.. and even when you get stuck without a party/activity, you're still in a city. On Sunday my friends and i were sitting there bored out of our minds, and out of nowhere we decided to go downtown. It was a great time(especially for me being an out of stater).

Thanks so much everyone for your replys!
