Happy Birthday Alexander Supertramp!. :D

Anyone else read Into the Wild, or at least seen the movie? If so, what'd you think?

By the way, it's his birthday today. :D

i hated the book :frowning:
he was annoying throughout

whaaaaaaat?! I thought the book was fantastic! What’d you think was annoying, the author, or the actual story?

I thought he was pretty awesome. Hes got cojones to go out in solitude to find his “spiritual self”

but his dying quote pretty much reinforces the human nature to be social “Happiness is only real when shared”

Bahaha I knew your username was for Into The Wild.

It was the first book we read this year in AP Lang. It was aiight.

mranthony: hahah yepyep. I think he’s amazing. Even though in the end he was lonely, he was one of the few people brave enough to follow his dream.

emory: hahahah. yeah. and I realized I spelt his name wrong about fifteen minutes after I made the username. -___-. Ahh man. I wish we read that for class.

Favorite movie, second favorite book, favorite sound track.

^Haha, out of curiosity, what’s your first favorite book?

Writings From Prison, Bobby Sands.

Wow, interesting title, I’ll check it out sometime.

It’s a collection of writings he did in secret (on toilet paper with an ink refill) while a political prisoner in Northern Ireland and while on the world famous 1981 Hunger Strike that killed him. It exposed the brutally torturous practices Britain used in violation of the Geneva Conventions. Beautiful and haunting poems, prose of terrible magnitude.

But I still love Into the Wild. When people ask me my favorite book, I name both.

Wow, sounds like a great book! I’m actually heading over to the bookstore now to buy a book for school, and I’ll definitely look for that one

Almost certainly won’t be there. I had to order mine online from Sinn Fein (political party that helped Sands get elected as a British Member of Parliament while on Hunger Strike). I could give you the link if you wanted.

^lol yeah, I couldn’t find out. Do you mind sending me the link though? Thank you. xD

Edit: I’ll send you a youtube link for a poem of his sung, to see if you like it.

the dude was crazy…

^^thank you. :D

^Lol yeah, a lot of my friends say the same thing. But honestly, I think he’s one of the few sane people out there. Y’know, one of the few who understood that life is meant to be lived to the fullest. I mean, you look around and for the most part you see everyone doing the same insane thing. Waking up early, working a 9-5 job, and sleeping and repeating. But, I think Mccandless realized that it was kind of crazy to do something you don’t even want to do just because it’s what society says is the right thing to do. Anyways, that’s how I see it, if that makes any sense. xD

I agree completely.

“I believe careers are a 20th century invention, and I don’t want one.”

I have that quote and a whole lot others saved on my phone… kinda lame, but that’s alright. My favorite is pretty much his whole letter to Ron Franz, and of course that paragraph he carved into the block of wood while living in the bus. “Two years he walks the Earth. No phone, no pool, no pets, no cigarettes.”
