Please add American to my D's acceptances. Thanks

OMG!! YIPPEE! Oh, do tell what happened! I am so happy for your daughter! I owe you an email and it is on my to do list anyway but I know we have all followed her pursuit and what happened with American and so would love to hear how it all worked out. But in any case, good things come to those who wait and she sure waited and her time has come. She is going to do great and there is a place for everyone and in the end, it usually is the right place. Pretty exciting. I am glad there is a happy ending for her. Stay in touch,
Susan

Mommy3, Congrats to your amazing talented daughter! WOW! I bet we'll all see her some day on stage! Has she decided where to go? What a choice!
Susan

Man, you should change your name to mommy8! 8 excellent schools!! Congrats to you and your daughter!!

I am new here, my son has been accepted to Uarts, Ithaca, and Webster. Does anyone have any thoughts?

He does not know where to go. I do not know which is the best program. He is completely obsessed with musical theatre. Are they all?

dilaret - Welcome - and congrat's on wonderful choices!!! My son is a junior. We haven't visited UArts, partly because the only pure conservatory (not linked to a regular college) that he is considering is Juilliard (for drama - no MT). We have visited Ithaca and Webster, and they are both very high on my son's list. In fact, I think they are similar in that they both seem to focus on acting first followed by voice and dance. I think Ithaca has an excellent reputation in the school of music from which the MT students take voice. I've heard that at Ithaca there may be some tension between the music and drama departments. I also think Webster is stronger in dance than Ithaca is. Both seem to have an excellent reputation in the industry. We had wonderful visits to both campuses. I would recommend considering for your personal situation the geographical location and travel cost to get there and also the scholarships offered. Without scholarships, Webster is less expensive. You couldn't possibly go wrong with either of these programs, in my opinion. Send an e-mail to me if you have specific questions about our campus visits.

I don't seem to get much feedback for Uarts and there seem to be a lot more working actors from Ithaca than either of the others. THe location of Uarts is great and their dance studios are fabulous but I just don't know about the acting and voice. It's such a difficult decision

dilaret,

I have twin sons who are wrapping up their freshman year at Webster in MT. Email me and I will be more than happy to answer any questions you have regarding Webster. I know that my Ss would be more than happy to answer any questions you or your son might have.

Best Wishes in the decision making. I know my sons would tell you that if you have a "gut instinct" for one over the others then that is the one to choose.

SUE aka 5pants

sidenote: Webster has an extremely high ratio of graduates who are working actors.

We visited University of the Arts in early April and thought the location was wonderful. Like Emerson, it is right in the theater district. Our tour guide said many of the kids usher at shows, etc. While there is no campus per se, the building are scattered along the street and our tour guide said there was a warm feeling as you walked from building to building. (Not like NYC, where most people would be strangers, tourists). The city seems very vibrant and our guide assured us the location is safe.

What we saw of the program seemed very good. Impossible for an outsider to really judge. The guide (an acting major) said the school draws many faculty from the profession. The facility itself seemed good. The day we were there the school was having a summer job expo, so there were a lot of outsiders around trying to get the kids to sign up for various programs. (I th ink the expo was mainly summer, but I could be wrong.)

The U arts site has some "blogs" written by current freshman, including an MT person. While that will of course be slanted in favor of the school, it might give you some thoughts.

The end result of our visit is U Arts is definitely on my daughter's list.

Thanks for the info, we also have visited a couple of times and love Phili, but are not sure about the program. What U arts site are you talking about?

is the link for the blogs of Univ of the arts.
