Shauna, I wasn't posting much last year when you were going through your saga, but I followed it as a lurker and -- like everyone else -- gained so much admiration and respect for you. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!

Shauna for President!!

What a difference one year made!!!Congrats, congrats, Shauna. Now you are on your way, and you get to meet a lot of CC kids. CC can start an OCU chapter!

Yeah, Shauna.....it is really neat cause through CC, now you will meet MTPop's son, Lexasmom (hope I spelled it right)'s daughter, MrsArk's daughter and are there more? It will be a whole CC clan there!

Shauna, I got tears in my eyes when I read your post. What wonderful news! No one is more deserving. There's no stopping you now!

Shauna,

You have to know how many CC Moms (and a few Dads I'd wager) are crying tears of joy right now. No one deserves this more. When you hit Broadway you are going to have to reserve the theater one night for all of your CC fans.

We all know that you will work your butt off at OCU (they are so lucky to get you) but make sure and have lots of fun, too. I'll stay on CC just to follow your adventures. Brava, Miss!!

Shauna:

I, too, have followed your saga and could not be happier for you. You have really worked hard in pursuing your dream, and now it is paying off. All the best to you.

vocaldad

Yeah for Shauna! What a great result for you! Your saga epitomizes the rewards that come from commitment, hard work, and belief in yourself. I couldn't be happier for you.

Oh my gosh! I appreciate the support so much. Thank you all so so much! (I think I'll go post something lengthier on the other thread...I didn't realize I had a saga but I guess, whatever it is, it gets its own thread! LOL)

Please change my dd's status to the following:

BM Vocal Performance (with talent and merit scholarships)--UCF
Dance Minor (UCF)

Thank you.

Congrats to Midgetmom's D. Glad to hear that the dance audition went well.

Congratulations to your D, Midgetmom. I'm sure it's a relief to have the decision finalized. Is she going to be able to take some acting classes in addition to her music and dance classes? I know this was a concern.

I also recall that you said one reason your D wanted to attend UCF was because of its proximity to Disney. Since My D is attending school in Florida, I looked into summer employment at Disney earlier this year. According to their website, all performing contracts are for a minimum of 12 months. Do you know something that I don't? My D wrote off Disney as a place to work in the summer. It sounded like she'd have to be willing to either 1) drop out of school or 2) ask for time off in order to work there.

My dd will not have enough room in her schedule for acting classes, but was told she could study independently with an MFA, or other professional actors in and around Orlando. While that was a consideration in choosing the Vocal Performance over the BA Theater Studies, I think it is the best possible route for her. It will be easier to work one-on-one once or twice a week with an acting coach, then overload her with too many credits, in addition to performance requirements. Also, the coaching is not for credit and/or grades, so there's no stress there, and she could cancel sessions when she needs to for other obligations.

Also, with regard to Disney, I do know that a lot of actors are hired for seasonal jobs, i.e., Christmas, Halloween, etc., and those contracts, of course, are short. We never worried about the longer contracts because we have family in Orlando and she could live with them over the summer as well as in the dorms during the year, thereby allowing her the ability to sign a 12-month contract. But, again, it will depend on her college schedule. We were also made aware that several BM's work at Disney in choral groups, i.e., Voices of Liberty, in Epcot. Again, I don't know what the contract lengths are.

Midgetmom,

Thank you for the information about Disney. I hope your D will be able to work for them while she's in school at UCF. I'll have to do a little more research about their seasonal work. FSU is a little too far away from Orlando for my D to do any seasonal work for them this year. She's going to summer school, not performing this summer. D plans to do a semester in London the fall of her junior year, so must get in some classes this summer. Thanks again for your reply:)

just wanted to say that my S is going to Ithaca, thanks for your help
