Dilaret, congrats to your son. My D has a good friend, here in Vermont but who goes to Walnut Hill (boarding performing arts high school) who is also going to Ithaca for MT in the fall and so I hope your son will meet this really nice boy.

thanks everyone, I am sure it will be a tight knit group.

i was accepted for acting at calarts, suny purchase, utah, ucsb, cornish, u arizona, fullerton and uci. i am stuck in deciding between calarts and purchase. any opinions or advice?

man ... what a talented group this is!

Congrats to you Jewelyard and welcome to this forum! I hope that wherever you go next year, that you will check back in and let us know how you like your program and I am sure the next crop of college applicants will be eager to hear from those in the "trenches". I do not have much advice for you, particularly as I am not familiar with those programs, likely cause I live on the east coast. I do know that Suny Purchase is well thought of for acting! My best advice is to have visited each school, talk with kids in the programs, as well as faculty. Look over the curriculum carefully because this is not like regular college because with a BFA program, so much of your program is outlined FOR you. Make sure it is what YOU are looking for. It is not about good, better, best but more about the right fit for you. It should feel like, "this is the place for me!" List the pros or attributes of each college and program and see if once you have that brainstorm on paper, if it becomes clearer to you which list most closely approximates what you were hoping for in a college. Many congrats and best wishes.

Further, you are right....the kids on this forum (or the kids of the parents on the forum) represent a great deal of talent and it would be amazing to gather them all up in one place and put on a show. I hope many of their paths cross in their journeys with their theater work!
Susan

thanx sooz. i know i like calarts because i have visited and have friends there. i have never been to purchase. it is all the way across the country which would be cool i think. it is a mystery other than i know it is a great acting conservatory and has some amazing alums.

I am familiar with SUNY Purchase. I am from Upstate NY and visited Purchase but because they didn't do musicals, have voice and only Ballet I decided against it for me.

The area it is in is pretty. The homes around it are multi-million dollar houses. It is very close to NYC and has a shuttle that will take you there. The dance program is one of the best and their acting is very good as well. They also have very good music/instrumentals.

The Campus is very modern, alot of brick and concrete--somewhat industrial looking. The views are fabulous!!!! The library is impressive.

The student body is alot of everything. It appeared mostly caucasion though. I didn't see the dorms.

If AT ALL POSSIBLE you should visit.

Just wanted everybody to know that, because of the tone on this forum regarding my posts, I never felt I wanted to post that my child was offered "waitlist" at another college (and, because I don't want anybody THERE to have ill feelings towards my child, I'm not going to reveal where). I never mentioned the waitlist and made it seem like she had only auditioned for one college because I didn't think a "waitlist" was worth posting.

Well, seems like it is.....because TODAY, my child received acceptance into a beloved BFA program and won't be going to her first school, as previously posted.

So, please take my dd's acceptance off the list and forgot I exist.

Thank you.

Congratulations to your D, MidgetMom. She must be very happy. I think she has been very successful. I thought it before when I read she only applied to one college and saw that she got into related programs with a scholarship at that particular college. That was an excellent result with only one college. So, if she truly applied to two and now got into the BFA at the second one, she surely has been even MORE successful! Good for her! I know that if my kid only applied to one and it was the first one, she only got into the BA and not the BFA and so her result would not be as it is now. But as you add more than one school, the odds improve for a talented girl like yours. So, rejoice for what she had before and even more for her latest accomplishment getting off the waitlist to X college~!

As much as we hate turning down some schools that offered acceptances and scholarships as we liked 'em a real lot, it also makes us feel good to return those forms because there are deserving talented kids out there waiting on these waitlists and so someone is getting a happy news now.

I am glad this happened for your daughter. Our best wishes.
Susan

I bet there will be more and more kids hearing from waitlisted schools. Lots of good news for great kids!

I've been lurking here these past few weeks, but I'm priority wait list at CMU and I will be hearing either way on May 5! I loved the school so much...I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I've kept in touch with both admissions and the deparment and there seems to be a chance that things may work out. It's my second year in a row being waitlisted at my top choice (last year it was Juilliard), and I'm hoping to have a happier ending this year!

"So, if she truly applied to two and now got into the BFA at the second one, she surely has been even MORE successful!"

First of all, I don't lie. I had my reasons for not revealing the waitlisted results (but they are personal and not for a public forum). But, giving you the benefit of the doubt as to your meaning behind the quoted comment, I'll just accept your congratulations and extend them to my child.

Thank you.

MidgetMom, I don't know what to say. My post was entirely meant to be positive and happy for you. You continue to misinterpret well meaning posts on this forum and misconstrue them into negative intent.

I never implied you lied about anything. I was trying to say that if she ACTUALLY applied to two, rather than the one as you had said previously on the forum, that her results are fantastic. I did not mean it in the way you interpretted which is saying "if you are telling the truth now"....but rather that with two apps now, rather than our understanding of just one app, she is two for two in college acceptances, a rather impressive outcome.

This post of yours above is nothing but more adversarial stuff when posters like me are trying to SUPPORT you. I have no idea why you don't see it as such but it is not my reality.

Best wishes to your daughter. Those are my TRUE sentiments.

PLEASE STOP THE NEGATIVE ARGUMENTATIVE POSTS ON THIS GREAT FORUM. THANK YOU.
Susan

I live a few minutes away from SUNY Purchase, and as mentioned they oddly do not have a MT major, but they do have theater. The school is in the suburbs of Westchester, has a wonderful performing arts center which attracks a lot of professional events as well as local dance recitals (my daughter's among them).

The school is about 35 minutes from NYC by train (the nearest train station being Harrison). It is near Manhattanville College (which does have MT). If you need any other info, let me know.

Wow - it's pretty unbelievable how supposed adults can be so incredibly obnoxious on a message board, and the so-called kids are helpful and encouraging. I think some of these parents need to get a life.

But to all the parents who have been wonderfully nice and helpful - thanks.

Congrats to your D on moving off the wait list at the other school (whichever one it is, apparently it is her first choice since she is no longer going to Central Florida). We were in Florida on vacation last week and visited Central Florida (kind of took our own tour), and my D liked it a lot. The kids we met were very friendly and helpful and also enthusiatic about the program. A good friend of my D will be attending there in the fall. My D is only a sophomore, so I don't know yet whether or not she'll actually end up auditioning (so hard to narrow down the choices due to the expense!), but I'm sure your D would have done well there and will also do well at her new choice. I know what you mean about the wait list situation, as we are anxiously hoping that someone (a girl) will not accept UM's summer program as my D is waitlisted there right now, on a "short" wait list. It's SOOOOOO nervewracking, especially when it is their first choice program. So congrats to your D!!

Can't wait to see who comes off which waitlists! Hrrrrrmmmmm ... Let's try to keep it on topic like we agreed at the beginning. Don't nobody make me go redneck on ya! ;)

Midgetmom,

Congratulations to your D for moving off a waitlist. I'm glad to hear that she loves the school's BFA program and will happily give up her scholarships at UCF. I know how much UCF meant to your D, so this new acceptance must really be something special. Good things happen to those who are patient :)

when I was travelling with my son doing auditions at Webster, CCM and CMU, I met a father who suggested this site but cannot remember a name> I wonder if you are out there and remember ...........

lindsaylou33: Waitlists, ugh! What were you waitlisted at Juilliard for last year? My D was waitlisted last year for voice. They said they accepted three sopranos with three on the waitlist. Bad odds getting off that list, I guess.
