I was in Ann Arbor last weekend to pick up my D and see the Senior Showcase preview (it goes up in NYC on May 12 for 2 performances). I was amazed when the kids told me that this year UM ACCEPTED only 24 students and 23 of the 24 have accepted the offer of admission!! In fact the only student to decline the UM offer has a parent who posts in this forum (mommy3's D,who will be going to CCM - congrats to her on the "clean sweep" of acceptances by the way - Wow!!)).

Anyway, just thought I'd share that info - pretty impressive.......

Hmm. My friend (the one I mentioned on another thread) is declining admission to UMich to be closer to home (BoCo). Maybe she hasn't told them yet?

Anything is possible! A friend of my D's who was accepted last year initially decided to go to UM and changed her mind VERY late to be in NYC - ah, the lure of the big city lights (and the fear of Ann Arbor winters.....BRRRRR).

Your info just made some UM waitlist hearts beat very fast - I hope your info is correct and TWO people can be happy (i.e., your friend who wants to be near home and someone just dying to freeze in Michigan ;-) )

I just recently started reading, and this would have been much more informative before my auditions! But I only applied to three schools and was accepted to each of them. Here they are:

Acceptances: NYU's CAP 21
FSU BFA MT
UCF BFA MT

I'll be attending Florida State University next year for their BFA in musical theatre. Good luck everyone!

Congratulations MightyM on your acceptance. Three for three! I'm glad you have joined the forum. I think I'm the only regular poster with a connection to FSU. My D just finished her freshman year as a BFA MT. If you have any questions, ask away :)

MightyM...are you a boy or girl? Just curious because of the small number of MT students they take at FSU. My D chose Elon instead and we're wondering what the final breakdown with girls/boys will be at FSU for next year's freshman class. My D really liked Gayle and Kate and it was a tough decision for her. You're going to love it! Good luck.

Thank's Dancersmom...I'll be in touch if i have any questions! I read your reply to the FSU trhead, which was very informative.

Southernvoice, I am a guy. Good luck to your Daughter at Elon, it's a great school. I know of one other boy and one other girl who are going to FSU next year, but i really can't help much with that. Sorry!

Congrats on all your acceptances. My dd is a junior and is getting increasingly interested in the Florida schools. I was wondering what you thought of Central Florida as compared to FSU.

Central Florida is a newer program than FSU. Also keep in mind that the audition process at UCF is two-fold. First you audition, then get a letter about one week later informing you if you get a "call back" audition which is scheduled in March. This was the only school we found which worked this way. UCF also has a Master's program in MT. Some people feel that if a school has a Master's program, they don't put all their time/attention into the BFA's. I don't know that this is the case, but I'm just pointing that out. Like FSU, they only take a small class (I can't remember the number, but it was very small - maybe 15 - 18?). Of course the campus is beautiful and very large. Certainly worth looking into.

Hi everyone. I was accepted to FSU(through theater) and UCF for the BFA. I was informed that only 5 out of 12 were through the theater dept. The rest were through music. I turned down FSU and will be attending CCM in the fall. My spot went to my good friend MightyM who was on the waitlist. I'm glad he got my spot. He deserves it. FSU's program is better than UCF in my opinion. They are more established and turn out great people.( seen several on bway) UCF is newer, but they have the great orlando location for disney and they as well accept only 12. In my opinion... go FSU. Til later......

there is a different feel to FSU and UCF. Becuase UCF is a new program, everyone is very friendly in a 'homely' sort of way. It felt less competitive in a way. FSU had an air of prestige, and everyone was very professional. It really depends on the type of atmosphere your daughter is looking for. I also looked at the school itself. If your daughter is looking to participate in the honors college, it's a thing to consider. I asked at my UCF callback whether or not I would be able to fit the honors classes in with my theatre schedule, and they said it was difficult. At FSU, they said it was not only plausible but has been done many times before.

UCF also has no dance major, only a dance minor that will be implemented next year. FSU has a well reknowned dance program, and their audition was very dacne heavy.

Some pluses to UCF, however, are location location location! No place better for theatre than Orlando, in Florida. I know they also have very good connections with Seaside Music Theatre in Daytona Beach.

I suggest if your daughter is interested in both, go to both auditions, ask the students and professors any questions she has, and get a feel for both. Trust me, she'll know which one clicks. Good luck to her, and to you! I know my mom was more stressed out than I was about the auditions.

Since we are in that lull before the initial first rounds of acceptances for 06-07 school year[not sure when ED academic acceptances start since D isn't quite there yet], how about we hear where they/you all ended up from all these acceptances.

And may I suggest the format follow "the facts, just the facts"? For example:
