After months (years) of working and agonizing about college, I’ve made my decision–I’ll be at Brandeis. Brandeis was my “second choice” for the last six months but not any more. I love Brandeis, love Boston, and love the cool liberal vibe

Me too I'm so freaking excited! Yay, someone else who's psyched too. I'm so sick of threads that complain about how ugly Brandeis is, and how Brandeis sucks because they waitlisted them. WHATEVER!!!
(What was your top?)

Right now it's between Brandeis and Tufts for me. I'm kind've ready to just say yes to Brandeis, but my mom is making me wait so that I can learn more about Tufts. She likes the prestige, though both have great names. I still haven't gotten my financial aid package from Tufts though, so I'll have to see how much they give.

believe me , tufts sucks except for its diplomacy school.. ( i got into both , not attending either of the 2 so not biased..)

No offense but I don't really think it's your place to say that Tufts sucks unless you're a student there (or at least have done an overnight visit). Tufts is a great school...in fact from what I've heard it's a lot like Brandeis except less Jewish.
And astroalex, your Mom sounds like my mom. She's all about the prestige. I got waitlisted from Emory, and I'm all set to go to Brandeis but she kept nagging me to stay on the waitlist until I finally accepted a spot on the list to shut her up. Whatever. Just because Emory's #20 and 'Deis is #32 doesn't mean that I will do better at Emory.

go48, the only thing I've seen you do on any board that isn't Ivy League is talk about how much the school sucks. You've done it with Brandeis before. If you hate both schools what do you expect me to do with your opinions?

Yea, moms can be annoying. Especially Jewish mothers, though I think the nagging gene doesn't discriminate between races. lol

Stain99, you have a point... i applied to tufts thiking it was great school...then had interview with a person chosen by tufts to present tufts in a good way : the guy was an idiot , he spent most of the interview either looking at his computer screen or telling me how i should only go to tufts if i dont ge ivy.... so what do u expect me to think of the school if that's what i saw being the results of a tufts education.... I know i should make an opinion based just on an interview but that guy sure made a terrible impression and after all he is representing his school.....
astroalex, the only bad thing i sayed about brandeis is that it has next to nothing in job placement and is quite expensive...otherwise i think its a great school... (and btw i dont just diss every school....)

Ok, I'm sorry.

Were you the person whose Brandeis interview was with a crazy hippie person?

yes, but i must say he was a nice person (emailed me congrats on getting in ) , just a bit nuts... sort of gave me the impression that he spent more time at brandeis protesting vietnam than studying ...although im sure thats changed since (although how i dont know: if they protest for other things or actually started studying lol) ...
actuually, i very much respect brandeis for having made itself a jewish place but academically top notch even though the 2 dont easily go hand in hand...

Aaah! Sorry about your Tufts interview, that's a miserable situation. My one for 'deis was pretty bad too. My alum was like "I didn't like Brandeis because I wasn't Jewish, so I didn't fit in." Meanwhile, I, also a non-Jew, was thinking Oooh man. Furthermore she didn't even know anything about the school because she hadn't set foot on the campus since 1970, not to mention she told me first thing she didn't read the information Brandeis sent her to prepare for my interview. Basically I had to TELL her everything about Brandeis.
Oooh well. Just because we had bad interviews doesn't mean that Tufts and Brandeis aren't fantastic places....still it was a nightmare. If I become an alumni interviewer as a side job, I'm going to make sure I'm a good one. ;-)

i really dont get it cause they dont get paid for the interviews so unless they're ready to give it their all and make a great impression why do they do it???

"actuually, i very much respect brandeis for having made itself a jewish place but academically top notch even though the 2 dont easily go hand in hand..."

go48, before i jump to any misinterpreted conclusions (as it seems those are the only ones to be made in regards to your posts), please elaborate on the above statement.

more or less, i dont know any other academically top level schools that have a jewish aspect to them... so brandeis has definitely accomplished something there...

gotcha. i think part of the miscommunication stems from the fact that you're international. sometimes the way in which you word things comes off differently from how you meant to say them.

so where are u going (if not brandeis or tufts)?

lol.. if your saying i dont speak english correctly cause im international, sorry but im an american living abroad not a non native english speaker... looks like im heading to Northwestern or NYU or Umich

You would rather go to NYU where you will be treated as a number more than a person, where your dollar at the end of the day is more important than your growth as an individual. Have fun. lol
