please give an explanation as to why they are hard....i'm picking classes for next year and i need to find out if i can handle these classes. Also, do you think taking ap phyisics and ap chem is a hard combo for 1 year?

It really depends on the person and what you're comfortable with. Personally I've had two years of biology, and I just outright dislike plus the concepts just don't stick with me, but if you're one for rote memorization as well as not strong in math this would be the best route for you. Then there's chem which is my personal favorite, but for some reason everything just hit me well, but it might be the algebra based concepts. And then there's physics which has some calculus but you can easily get by without knowing any calculus concepts. Thus, * personally * I would say biology is the hardest but that's most likely since I dislike so much, but generally speaking what's hard for one is easier for another.

From what most people think in my school, it goes like this

AP Physics
AP Chem
AP Biology

Physics being the hardest, Biology the easiest. The reasoning for this is that Biology is just straight up memorization - there is no problem solving (not really ...) in the AP Exam. I mean if I can get a 4, that is saying something.

AP Chem and Physics on the other hand deal with problem solving and theres no way to memorize it. Memorization is much easier than gaining logic imo.

But like the person said above, it depends on your strengths and weaknesses

Yeah same as everyone else has said. I would say take the sciences that you like. The bio exam should be pretty easy. Chem a bit harder. Physics should be really tough.

How come you are picking classes for next year now? I don't understand it. Didn't school just start.

sciencenerd-Idn my school is messed up like that it takes time for them to create a master schedule so that there can be no schedule conflicts. I like it because the school adjusts around our schedules...but it takes a long time for them to make it so they ask at the beginning of the year.

It also has alot to do with the teacher. Generically I'd say physics is the hardest, but if you know that there is a great physics teacher at your school I would not hesitate take the class over Bio or Chem.

content-wise, AP physics C requires you to know the most I think. However, the grading scale on ap physics C (from the sample tests and such that I took) seems fairly forgiving; I think you can leave like 1/4 of the whole test blank and still get a 5.

AP bio would be hardest for me, but just because I never liked it very much, far too much memorization.

Just so you know, the only reason the Biology comes before Chemistry and Physics is because Reagan wanted to standardize the science curriculum and decided to just go in alphabetical order. What order they come in doesn't necessarily represent its toughness. That said, I personally like chemistry.

I thought Bio was the hardest to score a 5 on. Yes, it's memorization (which should be easy), but there's just so much material to cover that you really have to work hard to cram all of it into your head. I think Chemistry is the easiest of them because the math is simpler than in Physics, and there's not near as much memorization as in Biology.

well...for me Physics E&M is the relatively difficult one...
but the others, if you put in a lot of time for them, you could easily get 5s, because all AP tests are not graded rigourously.

It really depends on if you're talking Physics B or Physics C. I took Physics C and AP Chem in one year, which was tough, but doable. I can't comment on Bio, but I've heard it's rather difficult.

It depends on what your good at. This year I'm taking both Physics AP and Chem II AP, along with some other hard classes. At our school we only offer five (three of which are Bio, Physics, and Chem). I'm better at Chem, but overall for most people it is the easiest AP. Then it's hard to pick between Bio and Physics.. again, your strong points. Another big factor is the teacher. I have the same teacher for both chem and physics and he is great, so that always helps. Best of luck!

like they said, it really depends what kind of person you are.
personally, i think ap chem is probably the easiest, and then bio, which is just a lot of memorization. ap physics i heard is pretty hard to get a 5 on.

AP Physics C: E&M equals h***. Very difficult to take especially if you have other APs that year and take it immediately after the Mechanics Test. Just like a 10 minute bathroom break.

You better be good at Calculus to take E&M, lots of manipulation of integrals so you can use Gauss's Law, Faraday's Day and stuff. Not fun.
