Hard decision, but my future depends on it.... ><

So it all comes to this. June 1st. The date which represents the end of quite a number of things for me. That means declining all the UCs I got accepted into and considering which one I want. It's long so bear with me D:

I'm at a crossroads atm, and I'm seriously going to spend the entire day thinking about it.

UCLA has been my dream school, always has been. And of course, the exuberance and joy I felt when I got accepted was.... worthwhile. From then on, I put my foot in this school and started getting to work. The huge mistake I made was applying as a Classics major. Believe it or not, it was more of a quick route to satisfaction. And of course, my primary goal in life is to end up being an ancient civilization historian at some point. I submitted my SIRs, got Housing in check, etc. Then, I glanced and researched the major more thoroughly. I kept telling myself that this was the major I wanted to pursue. Until I looked at the actual statistics of it. Sure, UCLA is ranked #9 in the nation for Classics, but the number of people who actually attend it is smaller than my old high school classes for... anything. So I told myself, is this REALLY it. I looked if I can somewhat change my major and I noticed the fat chance of being rescinded. The major is extremely work-intensive, but rewarding towards the end. It would certainly look good if I wanted to pursue a medical/law degree. Sad fact is, I don't. I want it for the history. The historical data.

Yes, I wasn't cut to apply as a History major. I couldn't fill out the pre-req. for UCLA History. This was actually why I had a huge consideration towards UCSD. I got in the school as a History major.

But then came along USC on the 29th of May. I know that USC isn't necessarily known for its History department compared to Films/Journalism, but the school has a reputation and quite a prestige. It has a social network and connection. The only thing that I dislike about it is the fact that it doesn't have such a stable transfer system compared to the UCs. UCLA feels like its giving me more of that "no turning back" idea. So if I happen to dislike Classics, I'm stuck with it for the next 2 years. Whereas USC History would probably give me alot more benefit in regards to searching more into the field.

I don't know though. I'm at a crossroads here though. I feel pretty stupid for not researching the Classics major extensively. Anyone have any ideas on what I should do?

Flip a coin, heads la, tails sc, and the edge counts as sd. I’m joking, but it could work haha. If your going just for the information, then you really don’t have to worry about being a classics major at LA, you can take all the history classes you want. After you get in, if you decide to change majors, you still can, but I heard it’s a little difficult. USC is good for only a few things, bio, law, and business. If none of those things is what you are looking for, choose LA

It sounds to me like despite the fact that UCLA was and may still be your dream school, you’ll be happier at SC or even UCSD. It comes down to your happiness and whats practical for you. If you can afford it, I’d recommend USC. Good Luck! :)

Wish I can just take history courses of Classics and use those to change to History. Then I’d be satisfied. This sucks.

K, I made up my mind. I’m sticking with UCLA Classics. It’s honestly something I would do. I guess I was just intimidated with the workload and the fact that it can be pretty small. It’s unfortunate how I can’t go into the campus itself until orientation. I really like working with a broad range of students. Hopefully this major can offer some of that. I just can’t find statistics as to how many Classic majors there are in LA.

I just flipped a coin, head ucla and tails berkeley. i got tails two times. Submitted my SIR for Berkeley about 5 minutes ago…

UCLA all the way, sir. You should be able to switch to a broad History major once you start there. USC should be the last place you go. It’s like burning money.

ya. thx so much for the feedback guys! I’m filling out the survey for the orientation atm. I’m actually surprised that they’re asking a lot of questions about what majors I really want. Of course, I chose History, Classics, and Theology.
