I have no idea how to approach this question

I think you’ll have to redo your link.

My bad

http:// i. im gur. com/XjetCdp.png

again, no spaces

Now I’m getting directed to the same question as in this thread: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/1548523-how-solve-math-problem.html.

But that question’s already been answered correctly. Twice.

http://i. im gur. com/hQjVLfF.png

Here’s a hint to get you started: Radius = 3, full circle area = 9pi. Sector area = pi, or 1/9th of full circle…

answer is 3/4 ,plug in (-4) into the following equation x^2 + y^2 = 25 ,solve for y, you get 3 ,since the slope is positive, the answer must be positive

Not that question, egyptianboy. A different circle question.

MRN, pckeller has you headed down the right track. Can you take it from there, or do you want more guidance?

oh sorry for the another circle,you write down the area of sector formula (since you have are of sector given which is pi),you solve until you get your theta,then you subtract 180 from your theta,the answer will be 140 C (THIS ANOTHER WAY BUT I THINK IT IS LONG ??)

Area of Sector = ½ × θ × r2

½ × θ × 3^2=180 ; 180 because pi=180

Now solve for θ and you get 40.

Check the answer by ½ × 40 × 3^2
or ½ × 2/9pi × 3^2

2/9pi=40.

Correct me if that was wrong.

Known/Easily Figured Out:
Diameter=6
Shaded Region=(pi)
Area of Circle= (pi)r^2
Radius= 3
Circle= 360 Degrees
1/2 of a circle= 180 Degrees

Total Area Equals: 9 (pi)
Sector Area Equals: 1(pi)

1(pi)/9(pi) = 1/9

So the sector angle is 1/9th of the complete circle
1/9 x 360 = 40
The sector’s angle = 40

180-40= 140 =x

Yeah I got it Sikorsky

Thanks for the replies
It’s actually a really easy question, I don’t know how I couldn’t have seen that the shaded was just 1/9 of the whole circle.
