Hard Number for the Class of 2015

Yale should be recommended for its transparency. Here are some of the numbers from last year (Class of 2015):

Total applicant pool:
SAT CR
700-800 56.6%
600-699 30.4%
500-599 10.3%
400-499 2.3%
below 400 0.4%

SAT Math
700-800 63.5%
600-699 27.5%
500-599 7.2%
400-499 1.7%
below 400 0.2%

Admitted Students:
SAT CR
700-800 81.0%
600-699 17.5%
500-599 1.5%
400-499 0.05%
below 400 0.0%

SAT Math

600-699 15.8%
500-599 1.0%
400-499 0%
below 400 0%

Just crunched some numbers.

Given your score range, this should be the percent likelihood of acceptance.

SAT CR
700-800 10.5%
600-699 4.2%
500-599 1.1%
400-499 1.6% (I got 10 kids admitted in this score range…)
below 400 0.0%

SAT Math
700-800 9.6%
600-699 4.2%
500-599 1.0%
400-499 0%
below 400 0%

No need to guess, ender. Look at my post (#7) on this thread from 08-Oct

Thanks T26E4. Those numbers are a lot better. How did you obtain those?

Now I am wondering how I got the 10 admits with sub 500 scores on CR (your list has 2). I guess a .9% error is expected when you do all of this rounding. But still, admitting two sub 500 CR is interesting.

Mine are hard nos. that were included in a newsletter to Alumni Schools Committee volunteers (of which I am one).

“But still, admitting two sub 500 CR is interesting.”

My guess: 2 outstanding international applicants.

The numbers Yale made public have exact numbers of applicants, the number of enrolled students from each state and territory, etc. I transformed those real numbers into percentage because it is easier to grasp for most people. The distribution of the SAT for all applicants is the most interesting number for judging the realistic chance of each applicant and most universities do not release that information. The median SAT score for Yale applicants is significantly above 700 for CR and M, therefore the median SAT score is probably around 2200 for all applicants.
Another piece of rare information is the breakdown of yield according to SAT scores. It is not surprising that the yield for lower scoring applicants was much better than the yield for higher scoring applicants.
