hard to get into

I have been reading the posts of others and have seen that people with high gpas have been worried about getting rejected! I do not have the best grades, but I am invloved in alot of things. I was wondering what the lowest gpa UT has accepted.

I've heard of a 2.9

JK

I doubt that very many 2.9's get in. The Engineering College & Natural Sciences require about a 3.5, while Liberal Arts a 3.0. They look at all the other stuff besides grades. But realistically it is HIGHLY competitive simply because of the sheer numbers of highly qualified applicants they get. I would still apply, for sure, if I were you, but have a safety standing by.

My boyfriend's friend got into UT as a freshman with a 2.9 GPA like 3 years ago. One thing that I'm sure helped him out was that he was highly involved with the Red Cross. He was able to convey his Red Cross experience in his essay, and also had really good recommendations from important people.

Also, I was recently accepted into UT-Austin as a transfer student with a 3.2 GPA into the liberal arts program. My essay was pretty good. I'm transferring from Texas State university, and got my associate's degree from Austin Community college. And perhaps my job experience helped me get in, I've been working with the same company for the past 5 years and have moved up in several positions.

So, even if you don't have the best grades, look for things that would make you stick out from a majority of the applicants. Emphasize your unique attributes/experiences in your essay. Good luck!
