I bought this nice cooler a month ago, where you pour in water and it blows out (slightly) cool air.

Yesterday I opened the filter for cleaning and poked inside the water compartment, and I saw what I figured to be hard water deposits. Mind you, I've never met hard water deposits before. They're whitish yellow, disgusting and can be scraped off with a little effort.

Now they're all over the machinery where the water used to be, and some of it even dripped onto the outside on closer look. How do I get rid of them? More importantly, at $1 a gallon-bottle, air cooling is going to get really expensive.

Lime Away or a similar deposit build-up cleaner should work well. Pour some of it in as a small solution with water for the compartment, and throughly rinse it out when you're done.

Comet wouldn't be good in this case.

To prevent this, you probably want to use distilled water (I'm assuming you don't have a water softener).

thing is, the machineries are inside the thing, and the hole is just big enough for me to slide my hand inside. i'm not too sure how i'm gonna clean them without unscrewing everything and possibly voiding the warranty.

i'm only using distilled water, but at a dollar a gallon it might turn out more expensive in the long run.
