E. A and B both say that her novels were raised on a reservation, which isn’t true. C has a comma, but it should be a period because the ideas are split into two different sentences. D says that her being raised on a reservation affirms the “enduring role…,” which isn’t what the sentence is supposed to say. Only E says that the novels affirm the enduring role and that the author was raised on a reservation.

It should be “had recorded” because the recording had to have been in the past for Cash to play it later.

It should be “relatively young.” It needs to be put in the form of an adverb modifying young. It’s saying that the music is young relative to other types, so it is relatively young. Sorry if that’s not a good explanation, I don’t know how to make it clearer.

I only see four choices in this, which is odd. Assuming that you mistyped the colon and it’s actually a semi-colon or a period, then there’s no error. I’m not really sure how to explain why there’s no error… there just isn’t one.

No error. Try making the sentence as simple as possible by taking out dependent clauses and that should become more obvious. “The pattern is composed of scales, each of which is the product of a single cell (it loses meaning if you take out this last clause).” It should now be easier to see that the sentence is grammatically correct.

I’m fairly certain this is also completely fine. Though nobody really says “need not” in conversation, it’s technically correct and the sentence still makes sense.

“Taking” should be changed to “who took.” Though the first part of the sentence is oddly worded, it could stand alone and still make complete sense. If you move things around so it says “it is not my parents’ fault that I have little interest in art,” you can see that all of the necessary parts of the sentence are there, just in an unusual order. Again, if you make the sentence simpler and try replacing some of the words, the error should become obvious. “My parents, loving me, are very nice.” That obviously isn’t right. You would say “My parents, who love me, are very nice.” The sentence in the question is more complex, but it has the same general structure.

“was once” should change to “were once” because there are multiple characteristics that were disparaged.

Hope I helped! Please don’t hesitate to let me know if any of my explanations were unclear or you still have questions.

Thank you very much, this is much appreciated  You’re the best,Have a nice day ! just two more questions, you really helped  in

6-Arecent report ( suggests tha) safety-conscious drivers (need not) limit themselves (to driving) large, heavy vehicles, because the structural integrity of a vehicle is ( more important) than its size and weight. ( No error)

is to driving correct? and why? Thanks for ur help

The other one is :

Determined to make a name [for herself] [as a writer] of short stories, Helen never submits anything to an editor until [revising] it several times.no error
why is revising wrong ? :(

‘To driving’ is correct. ‘To’ is a preposition and ‘driving…vehicles’ is a gerund phrase acting as a noun that functions as the object of the preposition. The entire prepositional phrase acts as an adverb (adverb phrase, technically) telling how or to what extent drivers limit themselves. Specifically, the adverb phrase modifies the verb ‘limit’.

The second question is similar in that ‘until revising’ is also a prepositional phrase with a gerund as the object. The phrase is an adverb phrase modifying the verb ‘submits’. The error is in the tense of the verbal (gerund) ‘revising’. Remember that verbals like gerunds, participles and infinitives are verb forms that function as other parts of speech. Even though these particular verbals are acting as nouns, they still must follow the tense rules of verbs. In the case of ‘revising’, it is an action that occurs at some indefinite time in the past before the present action of ‘submits’. Therefore it takes the present perfect form of ‘having revised’. (Note that in the first sentence the verbal refers to an action that is happening now - limit driving- so the verbal form is in the present tense.)

Thank you very much Wood5440  You really helped!

4-(Nearly) driven to extinction by the late nineteenth century, the southern white rhino ( represents) a great conversation success: since 1885 the population has increased from barely 20 animals to ( more than) 11,000. (No error)

why isnt “represents” wrong ?? nineteenth century is in the past so represents has to be represented ??

Because the clause after the colon reveals the southern white rhino still represents a success.

They could also be going for singular/plural confusion - although the phrase “southern white rhino” is meant to represent the entire population of rhinos (plural), the subject is still singular, which is why the verb is also singular.

E. Original mistake is a misplaced modifier.

(Has recorded). Should be “recorded”

(relative). Wrong tense. Should be “relatively”

I don’t see any errors

No errors

I don’t see any errors, but the “need not” makes it tricky since, well, who says that?

(Taking) is wrong. I believe it needs a past participle and not a gerund

Not really sure on this one  sorry

And now I see that someone already responded…:(

Isn’t the subject “Novels”? Why is it that we can use “who”?

@buttercream. Relative pronouns can refer to more than subjects. They usually refer to the closest noun phrase, regardless of its function in a sentence. In this case, the noun phrase is “Leslie Marmon Silko”

If you didn’t know the rule stated above, you could have defaulted to choice E since its clear that all the other options have errors.
