Hard writing questions !!!!!

<p>1- At the conclusion of the novel Te Great Gatsby, Nick Carraway, a young Midwesterner recently [arrived to] New York, [moodily] [watches] the blinking green light at the [tip of] Long Island.No error.</p>

<p>I know the answer is A, but is it because the right preposition is 'arrive in' as it is a large scale area ( at if its small), or is it because it have to be arrives as in 'watches'..Or should it be watched not watches....And please explain why??!!</p>

<p>2- [Despite] the efforts of the publicity subcommittee, [hardly anyone] attended the workshop that [had been] planned so [painstakingly]. No error.</p>

<p>Is hardly anyone a double negative??!!</p>

<p>3-Buffalo herds, which once thrived in the great plains of North America, trampled vegetation, (and future plant growth was aided by this by returning nutrients) to the soil.
A-and future plant growth was aided by this by returning nutrients .
B-future plant growth was thereby aided and nutrients returned.
C-thereby aiding future plant growth by returning nutrients.
D-thereby and aid to future plant growth returned nutrients
E-but this aided future plant growth and nutrients were returned. </p>

<p>I need teh answer with explanation plz?</p>

<li>“Arrived to” is incorrect. “Arrived in” does work, though.</li>
<li>Hardly anyone is not a double negative, but hardly no one is. </li>
<li>I’d say C is the answer. Omit “which once…North America” and the sentence reads as follows:
–Buffalo herds trampled vegetation, thereby aiding future plant growth by returning nutrients to the soil.–
C. not only preserves parallelism but also tells you who’s doing what without any confusion. The conjunction is used correctly as well, and there are no comma splices.</li>
