Harder for alumni kids??

I've heard that it's often harder for alumni applicants to get into Penn RD?

Is there any true to this?

What? Why would it be harder? You get no difference in preference when applying RD.

Huge advantage in ED; no advantage in RD. Being an alumnus child would never disadvantage you.

It could. Penn likes to keeps its legacy %age relatively constant year on year. So if there are a lot of legacy applicants in RD, you might be disadvantaged.

Considering you’re a legacy, you probably should have applied ED.

^ No. By that logic, if there are fewer than normal legacy applicants RD, you will actually be advantaged, which is not the case either. Legacy has zero leverage in the RD process.

I would think that legacy would be an advantage, regardless of RD or ED. Though it makes sense that it would be a greater help during ED. To those who think it has no benefit RD, why do you think so?

“While legacy applicants receive careful consideration throughout the selection process, maximum consideration is given during Early Decision. This is because an Early Decision application reflects the student’s personal commitment to Penn, independent of any family influence. Legacy status is acknowledged during Regular Decision, but it plays a much smaller role in the midst of a very competitive, much larger applicant pool.”

Although it is considered, it will not put forward a swaying impact.

Yeah I know ED would have given me a huge advantage and very well could have pushed me over the top, but I didn’t apply anywhere ED :/…Is there anyway I could illustrate to them that Penn is in fact my top choice and that I simply chose not to apply early to any schools (aside from the fact that I made it pretty clear in my Why Penn essay that it was clearly a top choice of mine)?

btw, I know this a dumb question haha…

Just a head’s up—PrincetonDreams is a MAJOR ■■■■■ on this forum. It has been documented many times in many threads on this specific forum (the Penn forum, that is). That is why his comments are often contrary to common sense. Do not listen to what he has to say.

@Ethereality3 Ah, that’s interesting, thanks for the link!
